I guess they thought that gene had been bred out of modern humans This was also interesting in a modern sense in that the researchers were these super white european dudes /maybe it was winter, their skin looked like a4 printer paper/ and they had to be super careful with what they did with these Mountain village turks. The village looked very backward. The parents were cousins, and they had 13 kids. They really had to be careful not to insult anyone or make them feel weird.
