Employee hospitalized, diagnosed with failed pancreas after US investment bank forced 110-hour work week: report
https://nypost.com/2025/04/30/business/robert-w-baird-workers-hospitalized-after-110-hour-work-week-report/
Two former members of Baird’s industrials team required hospitalization after extended work periods, including one who had previously voiced workload concerns
to human resources, the Journal reported.
Another employee reportedly suffered pancreas failure, a medical crisis attributed by doctors to their intensive 20-hour workdays.
After this banker was forced to pay a second visit to the hospital due to health issues, the banker was terminated due to alleged low productivity, according to
the Journal.

if u jog six miles a week, u will have a good pancreas. kinda hard to do that if u are chained to a desk for 110 hours a week. so glad i don't care about
making it anymore. hope these slave driving bosses burn in hell.

In the viral posts, some Baird bankers mentioned Aaron Haney, a mid-level banker who was accused of frequently assigning demanding schedules.
In the wake of the posts, Haney was terminated by the bank, according to the Journal.
I love how they got rid of some middle management dude who was just following orders from above and frightened for his own job.
Problem solved, it was just that asshole manager Haney that was pushing them too hard.
The people have spoken and we have listened!

Haney's banking career therefore involved an arc from a non-target university to a middle-office job at JPMorgan, to a small firm, and finally to Baird, four
years after analysts had joined.
It seems unreasonable, though, to single him out. Where were Baird's MDs while the 110-hour weeks were being worked? Seemingly nowhere to be seen, or at least
not paying attention. The original WSO thread complained that "seniors did not care." If Haney - who reportedly worked 20-hour days alongside his analysts - was
let go, then MDs should be held to account too? They seemingly include the likes of Adam Czaia, and Baird's co-heads of industrials, Joseph Packee and Mike
Lindemann.

The dudes career in investment banking is fucked, after slaving away for a decade to get a middle management job in the field
I am hoping they made him a scapegoat and hooked him up with some sort of other job because that really would suck

@whiteguyinchinaTest He must not have documented things correctly. When
they know there is a paper trail, they don't scapegoat.

Look, I think upper management was smart in not communicating these directives in written form.
Did u catch this part?
One turning point came last year when junior bankers were called to a pizza gathering in Chicago.
Initially perceived by some as a reward for their efforts in closing multiple deals, the meeting quickly turned sour when managers suggested that despite their
extensive hours, the junior bankers should improve efficiency.
---
Basically they would make these covert meetings that could be passed off as a casual comment of lone managers during a pizza dinner

The dirty secret no one wants to admit in China or the US is that the average American works a lot harder than the average Chinese person. Not just in hours,
but actually in number of tasks per minute of work. The modal Chinese white collar worker has a contract, can't easily be fired without guaranteed severance
(one month pay per year of employment), and spends 5/8 of their day typing WeChats to friends, making and drinking tea, shopping on Taobao, and straight up
watching videos on their phones. There's also much less of the up or out culture and much more of the, even if I work hard I won't advance to more than 20% of
my current pay, and even if I don't they can't really fire me, so I'll just chill and do my 8 hours and go home on the subway.
