Heroes and heroines

I've given a lot of thought to who my heroes are. In terms of fictional figures, I am currently unable to decide between Batman and Optimus Prime. As the
world's greatest detective, but with no actual superpowers, Batman relies on his intelligence and experience (and muscle) to visit justice on the criminal
underworld and make Gotham a better place. His idealism is admirable, as depicted in the Nolan films, but his refined Bruce Wayne persona is what I think sets
him apart from other superheroes. Batman is someone who could actually live in the real world, as opposed to a superhero who requires fantasy or mutant powers
that have to suspend disbelief. That's why Bruce Wayne/Batman is my hero. But so is Optimus Prime. As the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime is an
artificially intelligent machine, but he also has an unbelievably strong sense of honor and justice, and is the perfect example of what someone should aspire to
be. That's why Optimus Prime is also my hero. The irony is that, as between Batman and Optimus Prime, I think Optimus Prime is the one who will become real
first. I also think the Transformers have a good chance to originate from Earth and conquer the universe...

If I had to pick a real person as my hero, it would be John F. Kennedy or Ronald Reagan, not sure which goes first. Ronald Reagan's epitaph is a profound quote
from one of his speeches, and I've held it close ever since visiting his Presidential Library in 2012: "I know in my heart that man is good; that what is right
will always eventually triumph; and there is purpose and worth to each and every life."

Aside from family members, I am not sure I have ever thought about heroes as far as public figures. JFK and Reagan did a lot for sure. I am sure there are also
many heroes whose names we will never know. An example may be people in labs trying to find cures for diseases. Jonas Salk is probably a hero for the polio
vaccine. Polio seems trivial now, but it was vicious. Have you ever heard about polio survivor Attorney Paul Alexander who won the Guinness for longest human to
live in an iron lung?
