Indian people care about Bollywood and Hollywood, but Hollywood does not care about Bollywood or Indian people. It's a one-sided fandom. I personally do not
care about Bollywood except to the extent it might produce a Hollywood remake of a Bollywood film, which seems rare. Even Slumdog Millionaire, set in India,
was a Hollywood movie...I've always wondered how accurate the horrible things depicted in it are.
Except at the absolute highest levels, film as an art form is dead. It's been replaced by endless "content" on streaming platforms to capture eyeballs for ad
campaigns. I recently watched Barbie and Oppenheimer nearly back-to-back, and those are two works of art that are not typical of the present state of cinema.
The problem is the lower barrier to entry and ease of streaming online combine to form a wasteland of endless material in the same formats. The chances of a
talented director rising above the masses in this junk-filled dystopian vision of film and creating the next cinematic achievement is essentially
zero.
