Virtual battle of the bands
Who are your favorite artists/bands, and why? Here's mine:
1. Prince, because his originality, musicality, and technical proficiency has never been matched elsewhere. His fusion of technical guitar playing with a
wonderful singing voice, plus prodigious creative output in writing all his own songs, is a unicorn in the music world.
2. Metallica from 1981-1991, because their work up to and including the Black Album was their finest work. I don't care about anything after 1991 from them.
3. Taylor Swift, because her songs are so catchy and she writes and performs everything so well.

My taste is super varied in general, but these are the first that come to mind as consistently able to be played anytime in no particular order:
Radiohead - a nostalgia pick that I keep coming back to - when I started listening to them, I related to a lot of the themes of their music (alienation/societal
pressure/existential angst)
Stevie Ray Vaughan - greatest blues guitarist of all time in my opinion
Carpenters - another nostalgia pick, musically soothing to me - big fan of Karen's voice
Donna Summer - my iconic disco diva - shouldn't need to elaborate

+1 for Radiohead. Been listening to jam stuff while driving like phish or Grateful Dead.
