zerosugar from private IP /all hassan nasrallah i do not really watch the news, so i missed that he was killed in airstrikes. i am shocked. as somebody who spent time in lebanon, i wonder how the lebanese will cope with this loss as nasrallah was not just admired by the shia but even many sunni and christians respected him. i remember how crazy the lebanese go on may 25th when they celebrate the withdrawal of the israeli military from southern lebanon and nasrallah would give these big speeches. in fact, a christian singer did song about him thanking hezbollah for freeing lebanon. linked below. now, im not sure why israel killed him. i get that he stopped the israeli military from entering southern lebanon, but he wasn’t a threat like some of the sunni militant groups. i also get that in the past some members of hezbollah did some terrible stuff in israel. namely, samir kuntar who was accused of viciously killed a child by slamming her head against a rock. israel later released him despite this terrible crime. these acts by hezbollah in israel were a long time ago though and in 2024, i cannot see how a big act of aggression against a lebanese public figure benefits israel. hezbollah are not hamas. hezbollah are not isis. https://youtu.be/5tFhDc5SO3c?feature=shared #Politics #PublicFigures _reply Sun, 29 Sep 2024 08:23:31 -0700
zerosugar from private IP /all this also makes nasrallah into a sort or martyr. while he was already popular, his image had also become somewhat of a joke in recent times and some lebanese associate hezbollah with drug trafficking. now he will get martyr status despite his fading influence.
