A boomer moved to Panama so her retirement would be more affordable. Now she's
struggling to find a job and her dream is slipping away.

She said her only income has come from a guest house she rents in Panama through
Airbnb, her YouTube channel where she shares content about her life abroad, some
self-published book sales via Amazon, and referral fees tied to leads she gave a
real estate broker.
While this income has been helpful, Hayes said it hasn't been sufficient. She
said that she's accumulated roughly $13,000 in credit card debt since the middle
of 2022.
Hayes said she plans to start taking Social Security when she turns 62, but that
she doesn't think it will be enough to live on. She hopes to avoid dipping into
her retirement savings until she turns 70.
This is probably the worst case scenario

Reply #19190460 also it seems weird how a woman
would move to Panama all by herself.

Reply #18647987 Panama doesn't interest me much,
although I would love to visit all countries one day. I once met a woman around
the same age in Iceland who had come back from being in Greenland all alone.
Seemed like an interesting location for somebody to solo travel. I like to go
places with others when possible.
I do think my next trips (aside from when I go to my house in Italy) will be to
Japan and Russia. Belarus seems interesting too. I want to see some of the
isolated areas in Russia. I definitely want to swim in ice water in Oymyakon.
This video inspired me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFWtQ5AV0vg
Next time I go to Italy, I also want to see San Marino. I feel its an old money
place. Another place I found interesting is Transnistria.
One day, I also plan on checking out some of the more obscure Pacific countries
like Kiribati.

Reply #14669171 although I suppose Panama may be
relaxing. I guess it all depends on what somebody wants. This blog makes it seem
charming. https://jillonjourney.com/panama-backpacking/

Reply #14258472 Oh I also see myself in
Switzerland. I just love cold. I think Japan and Switzerland are the two safest
places for me if I go alone. I want to hang out at ski resorts in both even
though I don't ski and never will as it seems to risky. If I find somebody else
who has time, then maybe Russia and Belarus.

Reply #14707136 If you're going to go overseas,
Japan is the clear choice for an American expatriate who wants to retire and
live well/cheap. Otherwise, there are plenty of U.S. states where someone could
settle down in retirement. I don't know what my folks plan to do, but my guess
it they move to Colorado. Mom is still working; Dad is recently retired.

Reply #12578540 Yeah I would not want to end up
like Britney Griner. Then again, I do not plan to bring drugs anywhere.
You can get killed in an ally country too though. Did I ever post about Gonzalo
Lira who was imprisoned in Ukraine? He was an American and Chilean dual citizen
and online content creator. Virtually, all his content was in English. It was
just crazy dating content intended for an American incel/manosphere audience. He
called himself Coach Redpill. Aside from his rants about women, he would give
his opinions on the war, mainly taking a pro Russian stance. He then went to
Ukraine for a woman and started making more videos giving more opinions on the
war. The guy was ultimately harmless. His videos were in English and he
definitely had no intelligence on the war. He was arrested in Ukraine and
ultimately died of pneumonia while imprisoned. His father blames Zelensky.
