36-year-old quit 6-figure Wall Street job—now he earns $1,000 an hour working
from home as a tutor: 'More fulfilling than I ever could have imagined'

In 2014, Menking made the switch from finance to full-time tutoring, thinking it
would be an "equally meaningful, but less time-intensive" path into education
than pursuing a second bachelor's degree to become a teacher.
Ten years later, that decision has paid off — in both career satisfaction and
finances. In 2023, Menking earned more than $500,000 through private tutoring, a
number he's on track to match in 2024.
500k a year / 1000 is 9 hours per week
Yea ok

Reply #14856212 $1k is crazy numbers. I can hit
that rate with a group class (in fact I hit that every weekend here) but $1k for
1:1 is wild.
1:1 is a small part of our revenue. I'm at like $500-$550 for 1:1, but with a
minimum of 36 hours across a few months or a year. Interestingly most of my
clients are actually Asians not in China, but US boarding school or Singapore,
which is where the best and richest kids from China go.

Reply #10148827 Yeah I call BS. I worked for a
company for a few years that provided some pretty high end bar exam tutoring,
and the best of the best charged $400 an hour. Now that was a decade ago, but I
don't see anyone making $1K an hour on a regular basis.
