Trump complains that US flags will be half-staff on his inauguration day
O.K. upon research, seems he isn't so much mad about the flags at half staff as he is about the Dems being happy over it. All the same, I still think he
shouldn't have commented or complained. He could have taken the high road and said he didn't mind and respects the mourning period. Being a president is a huge
honor in itself. Trump should just be happy to have gotten this chance again. I'm sure the inauguration will still be a grand event. It's also wrong to attack
Carter (and I noticed Trump did this a bit in his speech yesterday before he hilariously referenced "Governor" Trudeau) because it alienates some more moderate
people. I realize Carter is a popular target of the conservative media, but I don't get it. Yes, you can be critical of some of his foreign policies or rather
the consequences of his policies while he was president. The obvious response to this was that he was not reelected. Carter himself was not a leftist though, at
least not in the post 1990s sense. He was no AOC or Ilhan Omar or even an Obama. This was a peanut farmer from Georgia who taught Sunday school and who did so
much to help the poor. The Republicans are making a mistake here by attacking him IMHO.

TEXT OF ARTICLE-
WASHINGTON, Jan 3 (Reuters) - President-elect Donald Trump complained on Friday that American flags would still be lowered to half-staff in honor of the late
President Jimmy Carter during Trump's Jan. 20 inauguration.
President Joe Biden ordered flags lowered to half-staff for 30 days from the day of Carter's death on Dec. 29, as is custom when a U.S. president dies.
Trump, who has announced plans to attend Carter's memorial service in Washington on Jan. 9, took issue in a Truth Social post on Friday with the flags remaining
in the mourning position during his swearing-in ceremony.
"The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my Inauguration," Trump said, employing a term
frequently used for the lowered position when the flag is on a ship.
"They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves," Trump said.
Trump said that due to Carter's death last week the American flag would "for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half
mast."
"Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out," he said.
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said the White House had no plans to reconsider the decision.

I mean, he is right in his own way. Can't imagine his voters cared for Carter. So I can see him riling up his
audience. Still, this is symptomatic of the Trump presidency and nay, the modern presidency, where non issues get headline news coverage. Let's talk about his
feelings and let's get the outrage going. Easier to control the sheeple.

Not everything a president does is news worthy. So why is this news worthy.

They are just reporting on some of the posts Trump made to social media. I think whether we want to admit it or not,
on FB, there are many late boomers and early Gen X who do pay attention to these sorts of headlines and will judge somebody’s character. I don’t think
Carter was a big Trump hater and I recall Trump had contacted him for advice about China. Anyway, I get where he is coming from, but it’s just a weird
coincidence and obviously people can’t control when they die.
