likely a tourist that has only been top Central Italy and never the deep
southern countryside or up north in the Alps. If your only experience is Rome
and Florence, thus you have not seen Italy.

it as an insult or take it personally, it was not meant as an insult to you but
as a genuine question. though crudely put but you have to note the forum we are
on.

I have driven about 1000 kms in Italy never been to north of venice. Italy is a
special place for sure. Love the countryside. Actually love all the old city
state sailing mini empires who were so wealthy back in the days. 

But you have to admit that for a first tier European country and economy, apulia
resembles Argentina.

And for the splendor of ancient Rome or the intellectual vibrancy of medieval
Florence, that magic has faded.

So my genuine question to you is, as an expert on this topic, where do u think
Italy went wrong. Or did it.

  Puglia is very diverse. Not all
of Puglia is Bari or some coastal area. I’m not Pugliese btw even though my
main ethnic group is from Foggia. I get Foggia because my father’s family are
from an Arbëreshë town that’s technically in Campania but very close to
Foggia in the Apennine Mountains. Why do you not ask why the USA and in
particular California are not as they were in the 1960s? I can even say Germany
and Norway and Sweden are not the countries they were in the past. Downtown
Helsinki and downtown Stockholm are very depressing.  Italy was destroyed after
WWII and has been occupied ever since. Our modern history was filled with
Spanish and French colonialism too. 

Are you trying to imply as many Stormfront and Apicity Users imply that we are
failures and not truly related to Ancient Romans or that somehow we are a mixed
race? Well here I present to you my historical matches. Notice iron age Rome not

  Italy under Berlusconi was also
starting to get strong in the early 10s. Sadly, people vote for bad politicians.
Berlusconi was a crappy Lombard too, but at least he was not a racist and was
genuinely a smart business man. I hate Lega. I don't buy their reforms. They are
racists. Matteo Salvini talks about Neopolitans smelling. Hilariously, he looks
Saudi Arabian. Giorgia Meloni who is half Sicilian and half Sardinian ethnically
with NO blood from the Peninsula looks whiter than him. A white supremacist
stormfront loser made this video, but I love this video because it gives
northerners a taste of their own medicine. I hated Renzi too though. 

Btw the darkest Italians are neither Southern nor Northern, but Central and I
suspect this is due to the Etruscans being a darker people from Anatolia.

We have villages where you can just walk around and eat berries outside and my
best memories are when I traveled with my grandparents in 1997. While I had been
to Italy before that when I was only 3, this was a memorable time. I remember
picking mushrooms in the woods with my grandparents and spending so much time
with my grandmother’s sisters who came down from Trento.

Sorry, but my family were not peasants. After the baron Stocco, my
grandfather’s family Costanzo were the second largest landowners in our
village. We still own two homes and a ton of land.

  Years ago there was a reality
show called Secret Princes and there was this eccentric half Polish prince guy
from a village called Martirano close to my mom's village on the show. There are
some wealthy people in Martirano too. There is a guy from our town married to a
lady from Martirano, but please continue to just paint us all as meaningless
peasants. Both my grandparents could read and write and were educated. My
grandmother was actually fortunate to write as many ladies her age and slightly
older from our town did not.

  This is what I wrote today as I
waited for my appointment. Being Italian in the USA is a miserable experience. I
don’t just blame non Italians. I blame dumb 4th and 5th generation Italian
Americans who don’t know crap about their culture and think Northern Europeans
are laughing with them. They don’t realize Northern Europeans and even non
Italian Catholics are laughing at them and don’t consider them white. 

see below my crazy experiences especially with my neighbor Doug. I can’t
imagine what black people go through. 

Also don’t you whites of northern european and anglo descent have bigger fish
to fry than worrying about the current state of Italy or any Eu country? You are
so repulsed by your own women and they are repulsed by you that you guys marry
Mexicans, Asians, Indians as JD Vance did, and even black women. When you do
marry a white, it’s a Slavic woman who uses you for citizenship and doesn’t
procreate with you unless you are a millionaire. 

Oh but continue to worry about Italians and every now and then a brain fart
about Jewish boogie men cabals. Your people destroyed themselves and destroyed
this country. Instead of asking about Italy, why aren’t you asking about
California which has been strictly under Wasp control?!? Is California the
glamorous  place it was in the 1960s? Is the USA still the place it was? 

You people won’t even exist in 20 years when you consider all the nonstop
immigration from real third world countries. How about all the human trafficking
not just from Central America, but also from the Philippines? Read the late
professor Alex Tizon’s essay about his family’s slave and read about how
many Filipino women have been rescued from slavery in SoCal. Oh but let’s
worry about infrastructure in Rome or Florence which tourists have destroyed.
Granted, I don’t know any of you or your lives. I’m just speaking in general
about Americans of northern European descent. They are self destructive. They
are cowards when it comes to really speaking their mind, but still think Italian
jokes are funny. 

I have a scum bag neighbor named Doug. Even though Doug still thinks we are
friends, I secretly hate him and blow him off any time he suggests we meet up
for coffee or sushi. The reason for this? He is a racist. He is a 400 pound
loser with white eyelashes and strawberry hair who had a daughter with some
crazy lady he met at a bar. Then her dad was a powerful cop who took measures to
stop him from having unsupervised visitation. Doug is not even a Catholic, but a
Lutheran cuck with the dirtiest home I have ever seen. He claims to be Scots
Irish ethnically. My black friends have cleaner homes than his and actually many
black homes are even cleaner than white homes. Poor and middle class whites and
even upper middle class whites of northern European descent have some of the
dirtiest clutter filled homes. 

All the same, he has been my neighbor for decades. When I was 18, the show Girls
Next Door featuring Hugh Hefner with Holly Madison and the other girls was
popular. I bleached my hair blonde at the time in an attempt to try to look like
the Girls Next Door. One day, I agreed to go for a ride with Doug and I remember
saying I hoped my hair would fade or I would have to dye it back because it was
washing me out. Doug with a condescending laugh responded, “Sicilians don’t
look good blonde.”

I’m not a fucking Sicilian. Not that there is anything wrong with Sicilians,
but not every fucking Italian is a Sicilian. All my blood is from the peninsula
not any island. 

This made me so angry and was one of the first times I had my ethnicity insulted
and was made to feel like an “other.” I told him I was not Sicilian, but
actually there are blonde Sicilians too. I told him there are even black women
who look amazing blonde and he doesn’t own blonde hair. I got out of his car.
Doug was always making racist statements and looking back, he was a stormfront
guy. He had become a neo pagan which is a big signifier. He was butthurt and
clung to whiteness after he was forced to resign from his job at the now defunct
Circuit City due to a Mexican boss and his lack of upward mobility. Doug
sexually harassed me in the past too, giving me breathy hugs and touching my
hand every chance he got. We eventually talked again, but I have hated him ever
since. I don’t wish bad on him or anything, but I just know he is somebody who
views me as a nonwhite or at best, a lesser white. 

Another time also when I was 18 or 19, I was fighting with my ex friend Margo.
Margo is a white trash chick (father from Arkansas and mom with roots somewhere
like Rockford, IL) who now has 4 kids with 3 different guys and who sells stolen
jewelry to buy drugs. If Italians are so fucked up, how come you rarely see
Italian girls like Margo??? In fact, Northern Europeans are more likely to do
this stuff. All the same, Margo and my mother had some verbal dispute on the
phone and Margo bricked my mom’s car. We were fighting on the phone. Then, her
first baby daddy this guy Jay Suerth who she was dating got on the phone and
told me to watch True Romance and told me I was really a Sicilian n*gger. I
informed him that I wasn’t Sicilian and not all Italians are Sicilian. He
continued to scream the N word telling me I was a Moor. I was educated on my
history even as a young girl to know Moors were not black and medieval raids
whether they were from Moors or Germanic tribes or even later colonization from
France and Spain did little to alter the Italian genome. 

Margo’s brother who was the head of a hillbilly gang also crank called my
phone once and left a voicemail that I wasn’t white if I had brown eyes. 

Years later, I had to work with Jay’s dad and his stepmother doing some
activism to save the church. They completely would ignore me in meetings and
treat me like garbage. His son clearly got the racism from him. 

Another time, my friend Jessica dated this fat guy. We went to his home once.
His mom who was this big loud mouth Irish American Catholic lady. I wore a scarf
on my head and she said i’m my scarf reminded her of Aunt Jemima and she
called me a Dago princess. It bothered me a non Italian using such a slur, but I
was just like 15 or 16 at the time so I stayed silent. 

Over the years, I even had to tolerate whites and blacks calling Hispanics
“Latin” appropriating our identity. We have to have right wingers and left
wingers attack Italians, Catholicism, and Columbus. I won’t get too deep into
this topic, but it disturbs me so much that I can write pages on it and this
wall of text is already too much. 

In law school, I had a friend named Brett. This sort of neckbeard white dude who
wanted to talk to me about Ancient Rome like I give a fuck. One day Brett called
me exotic and olive. This really bothered me. I thought about it all weekend and
was even unable to study. On Monday, I knew I had to get back at him. I put my
wrist up next to his and asked him who was whiter. He said, “Wow you are so
white obviously you.”

I then asked why he would call me olive and why he thinks all Italians are
olive. He angrily shot back, “Ok snow white.”

I have no green tones in my skin. I am not olive. I am not warm. If he did not
know I was Italian, would he be calling me olive??? I told him it wasn’t about
being snow white, but that it’s not cool to dark wash people. 

I decided Brett was not my friend after all this. I didn’t hate him or
anything or wish bad on him, but he was just somebody I was cautious about and
knew I could never look at him the same way again. 

I started to attend some groups at a Catholic Church in my area. The only non
Catholic in our group was this obnoxious Greek woman in her 70s named Flora who
was proud af that she had married a WASP. Flora was retired from the airline and
once she found out my mom
worked for the airline, they got to talking. My mom has been remote since like
2016 way before Covid, but they knew some of the same people. Then one evening,
Flora looked at me and said to my mother about me, “Wow she is so pretty and
exotic. Was your husband Italian too?” 

My mom answered yes and then Flora went, “Oh I could have never married a
Greek or Italian. My husband was English Scottish and a gentleman.” 

Throughout our courses, Flora frequently talked about Mediterranean people. This
bothered me. She made other catty remarks too that I will not get into at the
moment. 
I’m not fucking Mediterranean. Not every Italian is a Mediterranean. My mom
was born in ten mountains. My father’s family are from even higher mountains.
My grandparents never went to the sea, but you want to imagine me as some dark
haired woman on the Amalfi Coast or in Sicily. 


When I was making posts on JDU years back, I listened to racial slurs from both
whites of Northern European descent and even Jews who were happy that for once
they weren’t the target of jokes and racial slurs. I will not name names, but
actually I will name a poster who is no longer online by the name of Karl
Farbman. Karl felt the need to insult Italy to me and even though he was doing
it in a jokingly manner. Then he would talk about his wife and this is when I
got really offended and decided I disliked him as a poster. He claimed he
didn’t know why his wife was obsessed with Italy anyway as she is only like
1/16th Italian then proudly proclaimed her rest as being Anglo. He then said the
only thing she had Italian was her large Roman nose. This offended me that he
wanted to assign ugly masculine characteristics such as large noses to Italian
ethnicity. Later, he showed me a pic of his wife and her nose was not a Roman
nose. Not to mention, a Roman nose is a misnomer. We don’t in general have
large noses compared to Poles and other groups. We either have bulbous Alpine
noses or longer Dinaric noses or somewhere in between.

I have never dated anybody of Northern European or Anglo descent for this
reason, that they hate Italians. I will not be anybody’s exotic little swarthy
girl. I never even dated Irish or Polish Catholics. Although Poles and Slavs are
less racist than Irish and have never said anything racial to me, they will only
see an Italian as a swarthy and at maximum as some “passionate” darker
person. They will always see themselves as superior if they are blonder. 

I only like Italian guys. I rather be celibate than go with anybody who is not
my own kind. I also specifically only like to stick with guys from my own
ethnicity within Italy. I would never ever marry or date a Northern Italian.
While my grandmother’s oldest sister did marry a Northerner in the 1950s and
while my great grandparents settled in Trento way back in the 1940s, this was
before the days of people like Bossi (who hilariously ended up marrying a
Sicilian) and scum bags like Paolo Sizzi who lost his virginity at 35 to a
Sicilian named Francesca Monterosso. I can go on and on about Sizzi and how I
became acquainted with him and found out he works at a supermarket and is just a
loser. He is such a psycho. Bossi’s wife also should have spit on him and
never married him for the shit he talked about the South. I hate Matteo Salvini
too. He basically looks Saudi Arabian and thinks he is a superior race and
wanted to say Neopolitans stunk. There are some bad people in Napoli, but they
do not stink nor are they racially inferior to him. I don’t buy his reformed
bullshit period. Fuck the Lega Nord and I urge all southerners to not support
them just because of their fear mongering over refugees. It’s one thing to
have some Nordic cuck insult me racially, but to have a Northern Italian insult
me is even worse. Sizzi will NEVER cluster with a German as he wants. His ethnic
similar is Pep Guardiola. Again, Northern Italians cluster with Spanish and
Southern French. The only exception to this general rule are Austrian ethnic
minorities like Jahnik Sinner who is distinguished by his surname and language.
Otherwise, northern Italians are just western shifted southern Europeans and
therefore inferior to us. Sizzi is such a coward that he spent years on
Stormfront and couldn’t handle hillbillies ridiculing Italians so now he
became a microstate nationalist and claims he is not really Italians. He
couldn’t defend his people because he is a coward. For a while he did when he
became an Italian nationalist circa 2019 after losing his virginity to the
Sicilian. Then he went back to being a Lombard nationalist. Sizzi shows how
insane people can go when encountered with anti Italian bullshit. I had to be
stalked by this guy who even draws pictures of me and creates a million socks
just because I trolled him with an account with Pavarotti’s pic. He harassed
me by asking to see pics of my vagina. Vaginas are gross. I was so wrong to
reach out to him. I didn’t know he was crazy and racist when I first contacted
him. I just saw some of his videos about dialects and saw he was a lonely 40
year old who lived with his mom. I just wanted friendship. I never imagined him
and his friend Massimo Galli and some Tuscan lady with black hair and black eyes
would harass me so much. 

Sorry but Italian jokes are not the same as Polish or Irish jokes. Nobody ever
questions the race of Poles or Irish. Jokes against Italians are racial not just
due to cultural oddities or stereotypes. When you insult somebody’s ethnicity
and country, you aren’t just insulting them or the land. You are insulting
their family and generations of their ancestors. I’m not trying to compare my
situation to a minority at all not an I trying to say my treatment has been
similar to what black people encounter in America. I have also been fortunate to
be somewhat ethnically ambiguous in that most people don’t know what ethnicity
I am unless I tell them. Even many Italians don’t immediately guess me for
Italian as my surname Gliatta (misspelled Glitta in the USA) is an italicized
Albanian name. Obviously blacks came here against their will. Italians came here
voluntarily which they should have known better. Better to combat poverty in
Italy especially post WWII. My grandmother always said her biggest mistake was
coming to this country with 5 kids. We maintained our home in Italy though and
honestly if things get really bad here, I may go there 24/7 365. We were better
off in Latin America than with people who hate us in USA. Even if I hate most
Europeans, if somebody asks me if I’m American or Italian, I will always say
I’m Italian first. 

We are the most hated ethnicity in the world. Hated by Northern Europeans who
don’t want to accept that people “browner” than them could be so
consequential not just historically, but in modern times too. Aside from
Columbus or Cristoforo Colombo, Tonti (referred to as Henri de Tonty by
Americans who want to use the French version of his name rather than the Italian
version), and Giovanni Cabotto (John Cabot to Americans who refuse to
acknowledge he was an Italian) were all Italian too!!!! Minorities hate us
because they just consider us whites with white privilege. Never mind how we
have to be portrayed in Hollywood either as criminals or as working class idiots
with a vocabulary of 10 words and obnoxious east coast accents as if we do not
exist outside of New York and New Jersey. Jews of course hate us too because we
aligned with the Axis Powers. Never mind that Mussolini was nothing like Hitler
nor did he believe in Hitler’s ideas about race. Yet American liberals love to
call everything they hate “fascism.” 


This post isn’t just a target to white Americans. Minorities have been
terrible to me too. Once my ex who was Lebanese took me to a shisha bar. He went
to the restroom. There were these two Puerto Rican guys sitting at the next
table and they asked me if that guy was my bf. I said yes why. They said because
you are pretty and asked me what I was. I said that I was Italian. They said,
“That’s a spicy meatball and Mario Brothers.”

That was all these guys and many minorities know about Italians. My culture has
to be dumbed down. 

During the Floyd riots, I found out this hipster leftist historical guilt German
American dude was behind the plight to remove Columbus statues in Milwaukee and
replace them with a pizza maker. I was so offended. I wrote him and said he
wants Italians to just be pizza makers and poor immigrants. The dude tried to
compare his history to mine. We are not alike. While Benjamin Franklin
criticized Germans and Nordics, it wasn’t the same as critiques towards
Italians. People who came to Pennsylvania and the Midwest years ago were
weirdos. Amish and other crazy Protestant groups. That’s the only reason
Franklin was concerned about their customs. It was never racial. 

Anyway, everybody has a right to be proud of their own ethnicity. I had to go
through my life ridiculed for my ethnicity by both whites and minorities. I
shouldn’t have to be ridiculed. I didn’t select to be Italian and most
people would select to be Northern European or German if they could select their

Lake Como. 


The question while straight forward was a loaded question. I don’t hate the
person who asked it nor do I wish bad upon them just as I don’t wish bad upon
Doug or anybody who insulted me, but they have no clue how miserable it is to be
Italian. Once an Indian dude told me about how nobody cares about Indian jokes
too. While I agree with him, there are many Indian jokes, most stereotypes
against Indians and Asians are very positive ones.

  My aunt (mom’s older sister)
who is a darker “olive” woman who can only pass in Southern Europe married
an Anglo from Alabama. I can’t stand him and wish my aunt married Italian.
While his mom is a nice lady who sends me a birthday card every year, she also
never learned to say my grandparent’s names as if we weren’t important. 

It’s the worst thing to be hated for being white by minorities and to not be
considered white by other whites. To be seen as a second class and lesser white.
To have lies spewed about your ethnicity and bloodline.

  Oh here is my worst story ever
and when I realized, I can never tell anybody my ethnicity and when I decided to
remove from resumes I sent out that I speak Italian and have dual citizenship.
When I first got licensed I applied for some shitty job. I kept getting these
phone calls and nobody was answering. I assumed it was a telemarketer. I started
screaming to stop calling my phone. Then I get a call back. It’s some attorney
saying his headpiece was broke. I apologized for screaming at him, but told him
I thought he was a telemarketer. He then said it was ok and laughed and said he
is an expert of getting yelled at my Italians because his wife is Italian. This
bothered me so much. I didn't say anything on the phone. I just felt paralyzed
in embarrassment to be belittled as a lesser white who can’t control myself
compared to him, a composed man of Northern European descent. I looked him up
online. He was a straight up white guy from Ohio. 

I later decided to write him that it wasn’t ok to insult my ethnicity. I told
him if his wife were black or hispanic and I was black or hispanic, he would
have never said something like he is an expert at getting yelled at by angry
black or Hispanic women. 
White Americans of Northern European descent will never ever know what it’s
like to be hated for your ethnicity. This guy’s wife was an idiot for being
married to him. I would never let anybody treat me as a swarthy or exotic.

  I loved hearing Jimmy Carter’s
black pastor tell the story about how he took him to this grave of this black
man and told him that this was the man who taught him about Jesus and I love how
Carter wanted this man to know how black people were consequential to his life.
It’s so nice when a person of Northern European descent (especially a
southerner) like Carter understands how important it is for other people to be
proud too and not feel like we are meaningless human trash from shit countries.
You guys have the Founding Fathers and Vikings and whatever else you guys are
proud of… well us lesser whites and nonwhites also deserve to be proud of our
own people. I love that Carter made it a point to tell his black pastor that it
was another black man who led him to Christ. 

I dislike that so many Italian Americans support MAGA unconditionally too. Trump
should have to earn support from Italian Americans who are more likely to
support him than non Italian whites. While I don’t hate Trump, he said nothing
when our statues were destroyed. He did nothing when Lori Lightfoot did that. He
promoted racist nordicist theories about Leif Erickson which have been proven to
be fake by Yale. The Vinland Map was a fake. Leif Erickson day was promoted by
the KKK. 

BTW, I hate American liberals too and will never stand with them for all their
anti Catholic and anti Columbus bullshit. 

If Cuomo would have ran against Trump, I would have supported him though over
Trump. Trump’s parents didn’t want Italians in their neighborhood.

Madonna was also ugly with flared nostrils. Lady Gaga is not even 100 percent
Italian and neither is Madonna. The show The Sopranos (while I enjoyed it for
the early 00s vibes and other elements) also only included ugly women for their
Italian characters and beautiful women for the Russians or the Hispanic
Valentina. Then they want to show a skinny gracile with no body like Ariana
Grande who looks like she would give somebody a 4ft11 son. Hollywood wants to
make it seem like Italian women can’t be beautiful or feminine. Then for old
actresses they only show Sophia Loren who was a home wrecker and not even that
hot. They will never show a beauty like young Claudia Cardinale who btw was a
southerner. People like Giusy Buscemi, Maria Perrusi, or Miriam Leone are never
shown because they aren’t dark enough. 

Then Monica Bellucci is the most beautiful actress who ever existed in my honest
opinion. In since her face is soft and beautiful, nobody ever mentions she is
Italian.

  Stockholm looks ugly and
depressing. Never been to Stockholm, but my friend is there now and sends me
pics and it looks ugly and ghetto tbh. Oh but here in America, we have to
pretend Nordics are superior and the absolute highest level of whiteness.
Helsinki was ugly and industrial and on of the most boring places I’ve ever
been. Iceland was nice, but only because of the nature. I noticed Nordicism is
popular after the film Thor. I guess Hollywood had to cater to the Stormfront
crowd. People really should refrain from talking about a country or culture
unless they are from there. For example, it’s one thing for an American to
insult America. It’s another when a European does so and it comes across as
snobbery. 
African Americans may call each other the N word, but that doesn’t mean it’s
ok for whites to call them that. 

Speaking of whiteness and blackness, I hilariously have two good friends who are
half black and half while. They have a similarity! Both their moms are straight
up Germans from Germany! Central European, Germanic, and Nordic women love black
men. Why do so many German women hook up with African American soldiers
stationed in Germany? Isn’t it funny you almost never see an Italian woman
doing the same even though Americans are also stationed in Napoli??? Yet whites
want to worry about the whiteness of Italians. The funny thing is whites like
Doug try to tell me racist jokes sometimes or complain about Mexicans, I no
longer indulge their racism because I know I’m only white to them when it
comes to their desire to attack minorities. If the minorities weren’t here,
they would be attacking my whiteness or lack of. Nick Fuentes (product of a
Mexican dad and a half Italian half Irish mom) seems like such a fool. No white
considers him white, but he is doing the work of Stormfront weirdos.  Growing up
is realizing I don’t need to be racist towards minorities or spread conspiracy
theories about Jews in order to be accepted as white by Northern Europeans.
It’s sad that so many Italians try to cling to whiteness and think that
Nordics and Anglos will accept them if they are racist too. 

I also think Northern European men are bothered by the fact that most of their
women prefer everybody other than them. 

Being Italian is the absolute worst ethnicity to be. I rather be black because
then I would get social benefits and people wouldn’t insult my ethnicity to my
face and expect me to laugh at their jokes. I will never relate to whites and I
had zero in common with my white friends growing up. Black Americans at least
can relate to whites more in since they all eat the same foods and they are part
Anglo too now. Most black people are Protestant too. 

Another time this big fat white guy who drove a white Jetta when I was a
teenager and harassed me and a friend told me I don’t “talk like an Italian
girl.”

I guess I should talk like Adriana from the Sopranos or the cast of
Jerseylicious to “speak Italian.” 

Sorry, but I don’t need to talk like an east coast bimbo to be an ethnicity.
I’m Italian because I grew up speaking my language my whole life and don’t
even remember learning it. 

My friend and I were so repulsed by the big bald white guy in a white Jetta that
we refused to even call him by his name. We called him “him.” 

We would be like, “Him is calling.” 

I also don’t need white nationalism because I have my own culture. White
nationalism is the last stand of people with no culture who feel threatened when
really they shouldn’t be because they will always be the mainstream.

  Those pictures look amazing

I spent some time in puglia and I remember all those beautiful centuries old
olive trees, it was amazing

The oil was fresh and had an acidic quality, not at all like you get at the
stores in usa

The seafood was also amazing

Definitely had the Adriatic vibe and I preferred it to naples rome etc which
seemed more stuck up

  @whiteguyinchinaTest Certain areas of Puglia are not the best
representations of the South. 

The most traffic in Italy that I experienced in Italy was in Bari. I ended up in
Bari by accident going back home after visiting San Giovanni Rotondo which is a
beautiful experience in itself. The areas around Foggia are not for everybody
because so so rural and desolate, but are special to me because of my ancestral
connection to the place. I repeat although I border Foggia, I am not Pugliese as
my ancestral village is technically in Campania. 

With that being said, Amalfi is also a poor representation of Italian beach
life. 

People who really want to experience beauty in the South should go to Calabria,
Sicily, and perhaps Sardinia although I don’t consider Sardinians to be
Southerners. 

For me, Calabria is the most beautiful region and not just because it’s where
my mom was born, but it’s not as accessible to tourists because it’s very
mountainous and almost nobody speaks English. Beach resorts like Tropea are
sadly becoming more touristy though, but it’s mostly limited to German and
other European tourists. Pizzo is another on the Vibo Valentia side with a
historic castle where Napoleon’s brother in law was executed by the Spanish
and where the dessert tartufo is eaten. On the Reggio side, you have the
beautiful Scilla whereHomer’s The Odyssey is based. You can take a ferry to
Sicily from Villa San Giovanni. Then going up north, there is San Nicola Arcella
(arcomagno) is just beautiful and Praia a Mare. These are on the Cosenza side.
The beach closest to me which is a parasailing beach is in the Arbëreshë town
of Gizzeria. Gizzeria is not really for natural beauty though, but it’s a nice
city beach close to Lamezia to spend a day. I forgot some beaches on the
Catanzaro side like Soverato. Soverato is beautiful too. My mom’s town is now
considered to be part of provincia di Catanzaro, but we were historically
Cosenza. There is the Sila resort too for mountain life. 

Of course, then there is the Crotone side. I love going to Le Castella which is
the beach with the Aragonese castle. 

I am more of a mountain girl though as my mom’s village is in the mountains. 

Sicily is more metro, but Taormina can be fun for tourists. Sicily is safer than
Napoli for sure. 

Here are more pics I took in Calabria. I am including some in the mountains and
some beaches like Tropea. The picture I took of the Senegalese guy sitting was
in Soverato. I wish I can find my pics of San Nicola Arcella, but am unable now.
Anyway, it can be googled. Praia a mare is another nice one to Google. 

You can also see roads with almost no cars and pics I took on the balcony of my
home of the mountains overlooking the town of Soveria Mannelli where so many
Australians come back to.

  The pink roses are also the
flowers that grow near my home. Depending on the time of the year I go back,
different things grow. If Im there in September, thats when the grapes come out
and if I stay later into autumn and winter there are the persimmons. When I go
earlier in summer, I get to see my pink roses that have grown forever. The
grapes were planted by my grandfather's mother. 

We also have cherries in back, apples, and pears and in the back of my
grandmother's home, there is a fig tree. 

About Rome, for me, Rome is always magical. I stayed at the Excelsior in 2023
which was a very beautiful historic hotel. Rome is the only place where even in
the dead of summer in chaotic tourist tourist season, you get an eerie feeling
of peace. Have you ever been to Ostia Antica which is similar to Pompeii, but in
Rome?? Have you ever spent time around Ostia? Have you ever actually spent time
in Fiumicino outside of the airport which has some of the best infrastructure in
the world? There is a beautiful mall there too. The Parco Leonardo mall. The
malls throughout Italy are definitely better than the malls in the USA. Italy is
also one place where you can be in certain regions and be the only car on the
road sometimes. You definitely don't have that anymore in America. Also, unless
you are a Catholic, you just will not get Rome. So much of the city is now
centered around Catholicism and if you are going for Paganistic Ancient Rome
vibes and maybe imagine lions in the street, well then you will be disappointed.
 

When I go to Italy, most of my time is spent at my home in Adami so my
experience is so so different. However, I enjoy being a tourist and even when I
visited this guy's house in Abruzzo, I still enjoyed my experience on the bus
from Rome to Abruzzo and back. I went last year in the winter and its magical.
Italy during Christmas season is beautiful and it goes on into February. I did
not care much for Abruzzo as it's not my region, but there are some nice malls
there too and of course the mountains. Chieti is also a city thats even older
than Rome. I also stayed some nights in February last year in a beautiful home
in Chieti that was just gorgeous that belonged to a friend of this man, of which
I will post pictures in a bit as well as the mall in Rome beautifully decorated
during Christmas. Pescara is not my type of town though.

  Would totally love to travel to
those towns you mentioned. Spent about two weeks driving around Italy and just
did not have time for everything. Would love to just take it very very slow and
stay at some countryside airbnb. Stayed at this old house outside of alberobello
and it was amazing. 

Did not make it to ostia antica. Was another place I had to cut out. Would love
to see it.

My friend studied in Perugia and claimed it was amazing. I saw Florence but no
small towns on that trip. Amalfi was also very nice, even the mobs of tourists
couldn't dampen the place much. 

A doctor from bari saved my life as a child, I visited there kind of on purpose

  Some of Abruzzo and the mall in
Rome below. Sadly, iphones upload some pics side ways. Oh well. Abruzzo is sort
of a transitional fly over region (not really southern or northern feel or even
quite a Roman central feel), but I managed to take some decent pics of the
mountains and again, Chieti is even older than Rome. It’s just a weird city
because too large for the quaintness of small town life and too small for big
city conveniences. 

I had never been to Abruzzo before 2023. Again, it’s just a region that many
don’t really visit or only pass through because transitional. Italy is only
the size of Arizona really, but even though it’s small geographically there
are just so many different cities that you need at least 3 weeks to a month to
see a good number of stuff. Then, of course many don’t even make it up to Alps
which is a totally different experience in itself depending on the time of the
year somebody goes. 

My great grandparents first settled in Trento in the 1940s after my great
grandfather was in the military in Ethiopia for 6 years. My grandmother (mom’s
side) was from a family of 5 sisters. None remained in Calabria and I have
almost no family except second and third cousins left in my mom’s village. Two
of my grandmother’s oldest sisters ended up standing way up north in Trento.
The eldest married an ethnic northerner from the Alps. Of course, this was
before people like Bossi and Lega spread so much hate. My grandmother’s second
sister married a guy from a town called Coraci in Calabria now too far from our
town, but they settled up in Trento. All my mom’s first cousins are still up
in Trento. My great grandfather wanted to return to Calabria to die in the 90s
and then my grandmother and all her sisters returned to care for him. 


My grandmother (born circa 1932) was the third in her family and went to the USA
as my grandfather was born here in Chicago in 1923. He was nearly ten years
older than my grandmother, but he was a good man. His mother returned him to
Italy when he was only 6 so despite being born in USA, he didn’t know nothing
about here and didn’t return here until he was in his 40s. His father remained
behind and then the lines of communication were cut off during the war. My mom
and all her siblings were born in Italy. My mom was the youngest in her family
and only 2 when she came here. My grandmother’s two youngest sisters went to
Canada and Australia. The one in Canada and Australia don’t return much to
Italy except for a few times in the 90s. I have been going to Italy since I was

Italy is a complex country which has had all sorts of different eras. BTW, the
largest lynching in the USA was against Italians so it’s totally not the same
as Irish or Polish jokes.  Another answer to why Italy is different from say
England or France is that cities in Italy were devastated during WWII, occupied
by both Americans and Germans at various times. The USA even bombed an
elementary school in Milano and never apologized. Mussolini had zero to do with
what was going on in Germany and Poland at the time and his views were not the
same as Hitler’s.

Anyway, there are scams throughout Italy just as any country that receives
tourists. There are also honest people. Once I lost my iphone which was new at
the time in the mall in Maida in Calabria and the female sales associate found
it and saved it for me and had it waiting for me when I returned. I left a
charger another time in another store and they saved it for me. I had the worst
experience in Spain when a guy tried to steal my passport in a very aggressive
manner. Doesn’t mean all of Spain is bad. Just shady people who congregate
when they think “rich” Americans are around.

  My answer is also not to blindly
defend Italy, but having been all around Europe, it’s definitely not the
worst. There are many countries with shady areas and most of the EU lacks the
conveniences one finds in the USA. 

Italy is flawed because it has the worst of the west and the worst of the east.
It’s become too westernized in recent years in terms of morality (you have
unwed couples living together now, people covered in tattoos, etc.). They are
doing things their parents and grandparents would be ashamed of and have become
too much like other countries, but at the same time they lack the conveniences
that westernization can bring and maintain a certain closed mindedness and even
ignorance that you find in more eastern countries. All people are different
though even if from the same country. It all depends on the families.

  My grandfather also didn’t need
to come back to America with his wife and children including my mother. He
wanted to return here because he was born here and his father was still here and
his younger brother had come back years ago. My grandfather at that point when
he returned here in 1967 had already been working in Milano for years and years.
He also had his land back in Calabria. It angers me that so many people in the
USA want Italy to be known for only poor migrants, beaches, obnoxious hand
gestures, etc. 

Once I was fighting with Steven Van Zandt online who played a terrible role as

He then retweeted a comment of mine and some leftist Jewish middle aged lady
from from New York who called herself “ethical gurl” tried to say I have no
right to speak as all Southern Italians were serfs. Well my family we had our
own land and never worked the land of others. Nobody in my mother’s village
worked the land of others. We all had our own land. The funny thing is this
woman would never have the nerve to ridicule any other group and if I were to
say the same thing about her group, I would be called a neonazi. That one dude
who posts on legal forums nonstop cowgod who lives in Birmingham tried to call
me a nazi several times, but they can insult Italians all they want. 

I also find it funny they target Southerners in particular when Friuli up north
was an extremely poor region where much of the country migrated. Northerners
also dealt with pellagra. I find it funny that Americans and western Europeans
now try to paint Northern Italians as sophisticated. Wasn’t their enemy
Mussolini a Grand Lombard from up north? lol.

  Another important thing to
remember about Italy is even generalizations about regions are just
generalizations. You can have totally different vibes from town to town. There
are even towns throughout italy that speak Occitan (dialect from Southern
France) dialect. I feel in my mom’s dialect while not Occitan, we have some
words that are definitely inspired by French due to the history of colonialism.
For example, in Italian an apple is called a “mela.” In French, it’s
called “pomme.” In my mom’s birth village, we call it “puma.”

There is a even a strange town in Calabria called Guardia Piemontese which was
historically occupied and still largely is to this day by a Protestant group who
originated in Lyons, France who came down from Piedmont and had settled there
before making their way down to Calabria (hence the name of the town) called the
Waldensians. Many were massacred in the middle ages. 

Then in other towns over, you can have groups that speak Griko dialect. 

In my father’s ancestral village, it’s Arbëreshë dialect. Medieval
Albanian, but I believe in a neighboring village they speak Occitan. These two
towns used to fight each other supposedly as one were on the side of the Spanish
and the other on the side of the French. These towns are also unique in that
although in Campania, they have nothing to do with stereotypes of Campania and
the city of Napoli because they border Puglia and are much closer to Foggia and
ethnically tied to Foggia as well as to their historical ethnic ties whether
Albania or France. 

My two main ethnic groups on 23andme are Foggia (per my father) and La Sila (per
my mother). 

Anyway, in all regions there are also poor and rich people too. My mom’s
village Adami (now sadly largely a ghost town) was historically and even to this
day nothing but large landowners and farms and single family homes. People who
fight nonstop over land and will go crazy if anybody cuts the grass or plants
something on to another’s property line, but if you go to neighboring towns
like San Bernardo or Soveria Mannelli, you see more apartments. My grandfather
made the mistake in the 90s of giving away a large piece of land to my
grandmother’s cousin’s son who my grandparents had baptized. The state later
built a highway on this land and he got tons of money which is why I suspect he
wanted the land as he knew something we didn’t. The only generalization you
can make about Italy is its largely a land of farmers.

  The only similarities Mussolini
and Hitler had is that they promoted a national identity. Hitler was Bavarian
himself and clearly tied to that strong Catholic Bavarian identity, but he
discouraged regionalism. Strong regionalism in Italy was also non existent under
Mussolini. Dialects of course always existed and my grandmother even remembers
they taught dialect in the schools along with Italian. However, nobody hated
somebody for not being from their region as what’s so common in Italy today.
Mussolini himself was a Lombard, but not a racist like Bossi and Salvini who
hate southerners with every inch of their body hilariously believing themselves
to be Celtic. There were Celtic like groups throughout Italy and the Celtic
League doesn’t accept them for a reason. 

While I love dialects and uniqueness about regions, I also feel extreme
regionalism such as that which exists due to groups like Lega Nord (started
largely in the 1980s and 1990s) divides Italy. There are some southern
separatist groups too, but not as vocal as the northern separatist groups.
People who promote Lombard nationalism are especially ignorant. Lombard
nationalists are just Padanists with a different name. They ignore the fact that
the Lombards were throughout Italy, north and south. In fact, provincia di
Benevento in Campania which borders by my father’s ancestral village was a
Lombard province. Italy is very divided and its crazy that a country the size of
Arizona can be so divided, but it is what it is. Ages before the 1860s when 
Italy was unified, Italy had been unified in the past under the Roman empire
which is why there were the first coins with the name Italia on them. If Italy
is to go forward, we need strong leaders like Mussolini or the late Berlusconi
to unify. Late in his life, Berlusconi dated only Southern women. His last two
gfs were from Napoli and Calabria.

Well, whether you want to admit it or not, humans do identify in various ways
including by ethnicity and race and sometimes even social status. 

I think people can be proud of what they want as long as they are not alienating
others who do not belong to that group. Charles can be proud of his mother and
his lineage as long as its not alienating to the regular pub guys and football
hooligans in England who may not be able to relate to that type of prestige. 

Some people are against black history month, but I support it because black
people should get a chance to be proud and reflect on famous historical figures
from their own communities, not just to talk about white historical figures
24/7. With that being said, let whites continue to talk about whites. People
want to talk about the history of their people as well as the present, whatever
that present may mean.

when somebody thinks of jobs a jew does, they tend to think of lawyer or doctor
or professor or hollywood executive. contrast that with other ethnicities. 

italians are only painted as either blue collared racists, criminals, exotic
foreigners making obnoxious hand gestures, or some horny dark haired guy
desperate for a blonde tourist. then italians in the usa are painted the worst.
we have to be responsible for every obnoxious jersey shore type on the east
coast who doesn’t know a damn thing about italy. not to mention, people fail r
to understand, there are different waves of immigration and diasporas. not all
of us are the only product of early 1900s immigration, although there is nothing
wrong with that too.

but there is also nationalism which is a more collectivist sort of pride. you

in the USA. Not always a nationalism based on ethnicity, but it can be based on
a shared history. If we want to be more narrow, it can be a sense of nationalism
for the Anglo. There are also various historical groups in the USA. You can even
define the Mormons as a sort of ethno religious group. Can Mormons be proud of
being Mormons? To be some of the first people who crossed into the western
frontier?

back to milosevich though, nearly every former yugoslavian i speak with
acknowledges that serb nationalism wasn’t a thing until later on and rather
communists forced a pan identity onto the people. even the word “yugoslavia”
means land of the south slavs which is insane considering some groups like
albanians have no connection to slavs. albanians are just southern europeans
ethnically with some connections to central europe. there are also germanic
populations in slovenia.
