Anthem automatically changes primary care provider on Jan 1 of each year

So your doctor visits start getting denied coverage later in the year and you
are forced to beg them to change it retroactively whilst a call center guy from
India named Brian says there is nothing he can. Because you didn't check and
it's your responsibility.

Reply #12031992 hmmm i always thought most plans
let you change pcp anytime or at least once a month. thats crazy they change
automatically to somebody you can't know. try to speak to a supervisor and ask
them to make an exception. say something like you were sick during the beginning
of the year. you can also try saying you called that doctor to make an
appointment and he told you he is not taking new patients. doubtful brian will
be able to verify and get in contact with the doctor immediately especially
after hours.

health care in the usa is a joke. i have been through a lot having a rare
disease. my specialist who was a really nice lady who always answered my emails
in like one minute even took off to new zealand and then i was given to somebody
else and it took this person a while to become acquainted with me. i like him
now though and he was actually a student of the professor who first diagnosed me
when i was hospitalized two weeks in 2019. my doctor who left was also one of
his students. its one thing to have a chronic illness, but when its a common
disease, many doctors can treat you. having a rare condition (even if its a
highly treatable condition) can be a nightmare. you have to constantly worry
about having insurance that pays for specialists within a specialty. making sure
all your doctors are still in network. when i was in relapse several months ago
and desperate, i had a virtual appointment with mayo clinic and was considering
actually paying out of pocket to go there. i ended up canceling my appointment
with mayo as i reached remission again, but wow was that a scary time.

even if they do not want to make healthcare universal, there needs to be an
option to buy into medicare at least for people who have certain conditions and
are still under 65 and not on ssdi. those aca plans are a joke. sky high
premiums and sky high deductibles if you are somebody who has many specialist
visits.

Reply #19113984 i also was negative for one of
the main receptors that causes was disease, but since 2019 when i was diagnosed
they have discovered 10 other receptors. unfortunately, there are still not
blood tests for those receptors. i would have to go to mayo and get a biopsy so
they can test me for the new receptors.

at least you don't have a rare disease. worse case scenario, next year you can
try switching back to your regular doctor. i would try to do that though and say
the doctor they assigned you is not accepting new patients.

Reply #14174588 Well we kept the regular doctor
but now we are in collections because the i surface did not cover the previous
visit

Just an insurance annoyance whilst we sort it and spend 1 hour on hold

Reply #17871883 That really sucks. I thought
because you didn’t select a PCP, they just assigned you to somebody random.

I’ve definitely had that happen in the past where I go to a doctor and after
the fact, they tell me I owe all this money because out of network.

Now abroad they don’t have to worry about this stuff, but I noticed a shortage
of specialists in some countries and people having to travel far for treatment.
I don’t believe in governments running hospitals as the NHS have way too much
power in England to really screw with people, but England isn’t the best
example. We need to join the rest of the civilized world. There should at least
be a public option people can buy into. That will never happen though. The
health insurance industry in this country have too much lobbying power as well
as the pharma industry. Drugs are so cheap abroad compared to here.

Doctors office said jan 1 they also sent all of his patients a letter saying the
doctor would no longer accept medicare

Which was not true

So a bunch of people were confused

It's a bit of a mess
