Kroger chairman and CEO resigns following investigation into personal conduct
Michelle ChapmanAssociated Press
Kroger Chairman and CEO Rodney McMullen has resigned after an internal
investigation into his personal conduct.
Kroger, the nation's largest grocery chain, said Monday that the investigation
into McMullen's personal conduct was unrelated to the business, but was found to
be inconsistent with its business ethics policy.
Board member Ronald Sargent will serve as chairman and interim CEO, effective
immediately.
Sargent has been on Kroger's board since 2006 and has served as the lead
director of the company since 2017. He's worked in several roles at the grocery
chain across stores, sales, marketing, manufacturing and strategy. Sargent is
also the former Chairman and CEO of Staples.
McMullen, 64, began his career with Kroger in 1978 as a part-time stock clerk
and bagger at a store in Lexington, Kentucky. He worked his way up through the
company, becoming chief financial officer in 1995 and chief operating officer in
2009. McMullen was named Kroger's CEO in 2014 and became the company's chairman
the following year.
Kroger CEO William Rodney McMullen speaks during a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee
on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights hearing on the proposed
Kroger-Albertsons grocery store merger,, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at the Capitol
in Washington.
Kroger said its board was made aware of the situation on Feb. 21 and immediately
hired an outside independent counsel to conduct an investigation, overseen by a
special board committee.
The company said that McMullen’s conduct is not related to its financial
performance, operations or reporting, and did not involve any Kroger
associates.
Kroger will conduct a search for its next CEO, with Sargent agreeing to remain
as interim CEO until someone is appointed to the role permanently.
Shares of Kroger, based in Cincinnati, closed down 2.9% Monday.

Reply #19799176 Can only be one thing. For those
big jobs, it's a lot of competition. Someone can set a honey trap for hom and
then have him fired. He probably had relations with someone he should not have
had relations with.
See Dominic Strauss Kahn
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominique_Strauss-Kahn
Strauss-Kahn was appointed managing director of the IMF on 28 September 2007,
with the backing of then–President of France Nicolas Sarkozy. He served in
that capacity until his resignation on 18 May 2011, in the wake of an allegation
that he had sexually assaulted a hotel maid; the charges were later
dismissed.[3] Other sexual allegations followed, and resulted in acquittals.
These accusations were seen as controversial in France, and prompted prominent
conspiracy theories, as well as a debate on the role of the media in debating
and determining a suspect's guilt ahead of conviction or legal proceedings
having even been initiated.[4][5] Numerous photos of the handcuffed Strauss-Kahn
were banned from publication under French laws, while their publication in the
United States prompted outrage.[6][7]
