I attended NAB 2025 in Las Vegas and it's mind-blowing

Like every industry trade show, they don't want to talk to you unless you are a
distributor or have the ability to place a huge order. Other than that, it's
awesome. I attended several cutting-edge presentations yesterday, and then hit
the show floor today for the exhibits. I saw an elderly man have a medical
emergency and presumably die right in front of me as he was being wheeled to the
first aid station, which put a downer on the whole experience. I also received
a somewhat chilly reception from a couple of my vendors...I'm a tiny customer,
so I get it, but they made it clear they don't care about tiny customers. I
can't blame them when the exhibit space costs thousands of dollars for the
tiniest booth. Still a great show.

Reply #15723232 that’s so sad about the old
man. i looked up the event online. seems it mostly attracts people in tech. i
get nervous at big conventions like that. cannot imagine going to such a large
event in Vegas which is already chaotic. unfortunate some of those vendors only
care about high volume clients. hope at least there were some cool
demonstrations and good people watching.

Reply #15866721 I got training on the Solid State
Logic System T, which I have in a crate in the Trial Laboratory pending
installation. I found something I actually need, which is a 8K HDR broadcast
monitor (takes a 8K input signal in HDR and downsamples it to 4K while
preserving everything else). I saw a ton of cinema gear, including at the RED
booth where they had actors in a mock bar playing darts and shooting pool so
that folks could see the different cinematic broadcast looks on different camera
configurations. I checked in with my vendors and spent a few hours on the show
floor. I'm done after two days, no joke. It is just too much for an end user
who is not in the industry. Maybe I'll offer a presentation next year on the
Trial Laboratory and its use for broadcasting private trials.

Reply #18450970 Cool. My brother was talking up
this event, said it was the biggest in the industry. Kinda like CES.

Reply #18949596 NAB occupies the entire Las Vegas
Convention Center, which is one of the largest such facilities in the world.
There were at least two million square feet of exhibits across three gigantic
exhibit halls, and probably 100,000 visitors this year. It's unbelievable how
big the show is. My mind was blown.

Reply #17204425 I stumbled accidentally into an
adjoining room of such a conference at the Wynm, and there was a massive
security center there. I mean like 20 monitors and CIA looking people around who
kindly escorted us out.
