Installing a new shower

Did not realize how expensive these things were nor how horrible the old construction of bathrooms was

Like no water protective layer between tiles and wood, just glue and hoping the grout doesn't give

Stick that bitch right against the wooden studs or drywall

I bet 99% of all pre 20xx bathrooms, installed before plastic molding technologies in this industry, have significant mold in the walls

Did you get one of those shower panels? Those are pretty popular and nice. Bathroom remodels are hell. My father’s
cousin pretended to be a contractor and scammed me out of lots of money. He broke boxes of expensive tiles because he didn’t know what he was doing. My
bathroom is still unfinished. I made the mistake of fronting him $5,000 because he was crying his mortgage was due and then another $6,000 in wasted materials.

I would be careful with tearing apart an old bathroom. I think they were generally built better and that whole modern look is out now. Now the old time look is
in. I guess if you are confident in your abilities though and don’t have to hire a contractor. General contractors are mostly scammers. Best to hire people
who have their own speciality, i.e. plumber, carpenter, tile company.

I think construction quality is geographic, but now basically no one wants to install tiles due to eventual leaks and
mold issues. So it breaks down to quality of plastic used. You can still get tiles but costs a lot more. Was quoted between 20k to 35k for 2 bathrooms. I would
say probably 12k per shower is average. I thought it would cost like 3-5k.

There is a lack of trustworthy contractors in Chicago. Airoom is also a crazy company here that will not even come out
unless you plan to spend $60,000 on a bathroom regardless of how small. Even people who spent the money are unhappy.

Shopping for tiles is hell and I hate the current minimalist designs. I am so happy I have spares of my tiles that my grandparents saved from 2004 because they
don't make these fancy tiles I have in my kitchen anymore.

Many people are using limestone now for bathroom floors and I think that looks lovely, but its also too porous and can get destroyed as can normal marble. I
went with porcelain tiles and got them from Happy Floors. They are a supplier out of Miami that has many tiles made in Italy and Spain. Bedrosians also has some
good stuff.

The most chic for walls now though, but extremely costly is zellige. These tiles handmade in Morocco are so beautiful. Many people don't know how to install
them properly though.

This color casablanca. https://www.ziatile.com/products/casablanca-white-zellige-tile

Maybe best to get fake zellige from bedrosians though because easier for installers. The cloe tile is a good imitation zellige made in Spain.

❤️ if you want a good wallpaper, schumacher is so nice

i think this one would look perfect in a bathroom and i hope to do it in mine soon in charcoal. https://schumacher.com/catalog/products/5009871

de gournay is actually my favorite wallpaper, but way too expensive and some suppliers will only sell to interior designers.

The bath sales rep was showing me her customers as examples of work and she showed me some dude living in a mobile
home valued at like 59,000 that bought a bathroom for 30,000.

That's trailer park fabulous. Spending more on your bathroom than your house.

I joked with her and said, "he bought a bathroom that was more than his house? Now I understand why he lives in a mobile home with those decisions" but I dint
think she got it

bathroom should be of only non-porous material. Tile is good, marble is best, it's easy to clean & handles moisture
like a champ.
But when my mom passes, this house will be in limbo, so how can i invest?
