Question for China hands: tobacco
How much of what must surely be an absolutely gargantuan Chinese tobacco market is supplied by domestically grown product? Are smokes cheap? (And by cheap I
mean inexpensive.)

do people still smoke cigarettes with flavored vapes everywhere? even when i was in europe, i noticed less and less cigarettes. people like vaping because they
can do it anywhere. i suspect its worse than smoking though and much more addictive.

China i believe is at once the world's biggest producer and consumer of tobacco. Honestly I don't see much vaping but that could be age specific and regional.
Mostly males smoke. Smokes range from mysteriously cheap to ridiculously expensive. For exanol3 once I bought a 20 rmb pack which was like 2.75 a pack. Then
most bosses smoke 100 rmb packs of chunghwa which are like 16 dollars a pack. What the fucking difference is I don't know. The former are smoked by mogrant
workers working on construction jobs. The latter are smoked by upper management as a status symbol.

Funny thing. I like nicotine but hate smoking. So over the years I have let my colleagues try deep south chewing tobacco /skoal or just the leaves/, European
Snuss /in neat little pouches/, European snuff/up the nose/, a pipe, nicotine gum and one guy came through with nicotine spray. None of it got good reviews.
They only like to smoke cigarettes. Go figure

The big bosses do these electronic cigarettes, with the charger. You know those little cigarette stubs that you insert and puff on. They have a filter. I think
people smoke them because the brand is korean and it shows people have purchasing ability to buy duty free tobaccoshit

There's a good amount of vaping these days, but just among the under 40 crowd. Cigarettes are still king despite all the attempts to cut down smoking in public
places.
I bought a carton of Zhonghua (what WGIC is talking about) at the duty free for $90 yesterday but I don't smoke. A pack retails for $12 or so and is a baller
tip for any handyman or property manager guy or courier who does something very nice for me. My in-laws provide me cartons of cheaper smokes ($3 per pack) for
normal tips too. Men in this country won't accept money as tips but will take a pack.

That's curious about the unacceptability of cash tips. What do you reckon is the reason for that? Does mere cash sort of cheapen the exchange? Like, inasmuch as
getting and then disbursing a propinquity for extra good service is the nucleation of guanxi, is it inappropriate to use naked money for that?
