Jacqueline Ma, 36, apologized to victims, their families in San Diego County court ahead of sentencing
A former California "Teacher of the Year" was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing two of her sixth-grade students.
Jacqueline Ma, 36, pleaded guilty in February to two counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, one count of lewd acts on a child and one count of possessing
child sexual abuse material, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
"This defendant violated the trust she had with her students in the most extreme and traumatic way possible and her actions are despicable," District Attorney
Summer Stephan said. "Her victims will have to deal with a lifetime of negative effects and her 30-year sentence is appropriate."
Ma taught at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City and was the former San Diego County "Teacher of the Year" for the 2022-2023 school year.
Ma was allowed to address the public before the judge handed down her sentence, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
I abused my authority, I exerted my power and control over them, and I deceived them," Ma said while handcuffed and crying in court. "Boys this age should be
playing outside, feeling carefree … I ripped away their childhood."
Ma apologized to the victims and their families, calling her crimes selfish and that she had "disgraced the teaching profession."
"I lied to their faces while secretly abusing their sons," Ma said. "I just pray for extra protection and strength for all those (affected)."
Ma had groomed young boys with "gifts, food and special attention and even completed their homework for them," the district attorney’s office said.
Ma was arrested in March 2023 after prosecutors said the parents of a 12-year-old boy discovered inappropriate messages on a family tablet between their son and
Ma.
Despite the boy’s parents not allowing him to have social media or his own electronics, Ma was able to communicate with him through an unsanctioned
after-school program and through a school chat application, the district attorney’s office said.
Ma groomed the boy for over a year before she sexually assaulted him in her classroom over a period of three months while his parents believed he was
participating in an after-school basketball program, prosecutors said.
Further investigation into Ma revealed that she had targeted and sexually assaulted a second victim, an 11-year-old boy, in 2020, according to the district
attorney’s office.
No child deserves what this defendant did and I hope this sentence brings a measure of justice to the victims, their families and the community that was left
reeling from this defendant’s crimes," Stephan said.

Wow this story is crazy and I don’t get why she accepted a plea deal of 30 years. Wonder how much more time she was facing? Why did she even make all those
statements at this point? Our justice system is a joke. Not trying to downplay what she did, but she didn’t kill anybody. Gypsy Rose is out on the streets and
she killed her mother and set up a guy. She got a ten year plea deal. Now not only did her mom lose her life, the young autistic man got life in prison, and his
mother committed suicide. Gypsy’s mom was crazy, but she loved her daughter and much of what they did was just a scam to get money. Gypsy knew she wasn’t
sick and even told people she was “pretending to be a disabled person.”
I listened to Gypsy’s book via audio and studied the case extensively.
Casey Anthony is also walking the streets. Now, I believe Jacqueline deserves prison time, but 30 years for a crime that’s not homicide or forcible rape is
crazy. I guess we can argue that she tricked the boys or if they were under the state age of consent.

I also think it’s worth pondering why stuff like this that happens in the religious setting always makes headlines when the media seek to paint the Church as
hypocritical, but stories on school teachers never make a dent in the public school system. Public school teachers who are frequently accused will never get
stereotyped as pedos.

Wait, so she got sentenced to 30 years but must serve all 30 before being eligible for parole? Unless she gets extra time for, like, bad behavior then how would
parole be invoked anyway? (Not a crim lawyer!)
0shug, you query whether she was facing more time. That seems plausible if she accepted 30 yrs no parole. Maybe she had 1,024 CP pictures and each one of them
is a felony; and so instead of getting 32,768 years she pleads out at 30?

pretty sure her ethnicity doomed her here.
just like how that black guy in NYC walked after pushing that oriental man onto the subway tracks for him to die.

@marlonTest actually there have been a few white girls in the past. long before
ms. ma, there was this lady named brittany zamora in arizona. zamora is her married name as she was married to a mexican.
zamora got about 20 or 30 years.
here in illinois, a teacher was arrested recently named christina formella. formella is also a married name, real name kiotis which i think is greek.

jacqueline ma is just the latest story. i was in the car looking at the news updates and it came up and the way she apologized in court just struck me as
bizarre.
anyway, look up the brittany zamora fiasco. that lady was nutso. on 4chan they loved laughing about the story saying she cucked a mexican. the mexican guy was a
nice guy though and even begging the boy’s family not to press charges. imagine still defending your wife after she cheats on you with a 13 year old boy.
craziness.

@phositaTest these are complex cases for sure. 12 is extremely young. no doubt
these boys are going to suffer emotionally and i knew of a female teacher who did harass the boys and they grew up to be woman haters and some even turned to
violence. i just wonder if the court case itself is even more stressful. i do think damages should be paid in the form of civil lawsuits. i don’t think she
should ever work with kids again and i think 1-5 years plus the humiliation of it all is sufficient for a crime that was not homicide or forcible rape. it’s
extremely disgusting, but should we treat it the same as the pedo who attacks a child walking down the alley? i just don’t know to be honest.
i personally don’t know how anybody can be attracted to a 12 year old boy or even a 15 year old boy. i personally mostly only liked old guys although most of
the attention i got was from younger guys.

at the same time, it takes a very very sick sick person to be attracted to a child. if they can cross a line with a child, what else will they do?

being around kids at all is a huge bad risk, as we know, kids lie, esp. when
prodded by adults.

@marlonTest that’s true too! i’m sure there have also been cases of students
lying. a teacher may be a hard ass and to get revenge, the kids make an accusation. it’s easy to make an accusation now and accusations stick even if
unfounded. the simplest solution would be surveillance cams in classrooms, but then people will cry about privacy and i wouldn’t want to be recorded all day
in a classroom.
