Tyler Robinson

He is Mormon. He wrote anti fascist slogans on the bullets. All the same, I think it's interesting to dissect this man's motives and how his upbringing may have
shaped him. His family are supposedly MAGA and the father was reported to have worked in law enforcement.

Here is something I have noticed about Mormons. They tend to be very very kind people. Say what you want about their beliefs, Mormons are an outlier when it
comes to other WASP (white anglo Saxon protestant, heritage American if you will) communities in this country. Part of my childhood was spent in Hunstville,
Alabama where most of the WASPs were your run of the mill Southern Baptists who knew very little about life outside of the USA and other cultures. Many
Evangelicals have the same type of ignorance. Now, Mormons are also conservative, but there tends to be this compassionate conservatism amongst them. Unlike
other WASP groups, they are also highly educated and well traveled. Many speak multiple languages and some go on to even work for the CIA and FBI. I'm not
venturing into a conspiracy theory, but I am just saying that while some may think somebody like Charlie Kirk is a natural ally of a community like the LDS, I
disagree.

Mormons while conservative like Kirk represent a totally different side of conservatism. They have a sense of social justice (almost similar to many Catholics,
but with more etiquette and warmness than Catholics), so it makes sense that somebody like Robinson was extremely put off by Charlie Kirk and ultimately aligned
himself with communist and/or anti fascist leftist stance despite an upbringing that seems right wing.

Now, Kirk didn't deserve to die for mere opinions, but it's also important to frame how his opinions were different than other conservative commentators. Steve
Bannon seems like your angry Irish Catholic boomer dude who mostly attacks institutions and elites. Alex Jones and Nicholas Fuentes are more like these edge
lords who say stuff for shock value and they even laugh at themselves sometimes for the absurdities they say.

Charlie Kirk on the outside seemed clean cut midwestern and moderate, but he did something others never dared to do. First, he did not just attack education as
an institution, he went around universities and basically told these kids their endeavors and life paths were useless. Anybody who has spent time on a degree
knows the blood sweat and tears that go into it and then to be minimized by Kirk was harsh. He oftentimes bulldozed rather than debated. When I used to watch
him, I never imagined he would be assassinated, but I thought he would reach a point of really really pissing somebody off.

He attacked affirmative action, but rather than attacking mere policies, he ventured into eugenics saying black women like Justice Ketanji Brown lacked brain
capacity to get to their positions without eugenics. He said education was destroying women and women over 30 lacked value, yet he married a woman over 30 when
he was 27 and his wife is highly educated and even worked on a PhD.

When Kirk made these comments attacking individuals rather than institutions, he never considered who he could have been hurting. How about the woman who is
sterile from cancer or an autoimmune disease and battled disease in her 20s? How about the widow in her 30s looking to find love again or the divorcee abandoned
by her husband? Nope, he just talked and lumped everybody into categories.

Of course, his words do not make his death any less tragic. His death is still sad because he was only 31 and did not get a chance to evolve and moderate his
views and realize his words stung.

Now, Rush Limbaugh used terms like "feminazi," but he never really created archetypes and attacked individuals as Charlie Kirk did. Kirk did it with seriousness
too and a straight face.

Another interesting thing about Charlie Kirk is he grew up in the Chicagoland suburbs. Chicago is a blue city, but Illinois is a red state. Neither are
conservatives nor our liberals are extremist. Sure, our politics in Chicago can be corrupt, but it's never been a progressive city like say Portland or Seattle.
It's quite fascinating that somebody like Charlie Kirk rose out of the Chicagoland area. His views could have been more easily dismissed if he were from
somewhere like Mississippi or say West Virginia or even if he were some straight talking Texan.

tl; dr Its easy to see how groups such as Mormons who pride themselves on a sort of politeness while still holding on to traditional values were put off by
Kirk. Anyway, crazy this guy is only 22. Makes me wonder what was going through his mind. I think they will throw the book at him and seek the death penalty and
as somebody who is against the death penalty, that makes me sad to see a young life wasted. Well, two young lives.

I also really want to read the Book of Mormon. I will not actually read it, but I may listen to it in audio while working. Mormons really fascinate me. It's the
only religion purely American. Yes, Native Americans may have their own religions, but if the Bering Strait theory holds true then Native American faiths are
more eastern. Pre-Confucian if you will. Mormons are purely Americana. I'm also obsessed with the Old West and their journeys on caravans. I read a book about
Olive Oatman this past spring and also became fascinated with the prophet James C. Brewster that her family followed. I know Illinois is an important state for
Mormons too and their early history.

I look at this kid and I wonder if he even knew what he was doing. Or was he thinking this was a video game.

I also find it ironic that so many people have lost their jobs or have faced repercussions after saying negative or heartless things about the murdered man,
while at the same time people are celebrating his death as a call to freedom of speech. I don't know how to feel about that. Thoughts?

Still a sad day. I have no idea who the deceased was but for sure he did nothing to deserve it.

I have spent some time in Utah as a visitor. I stayed at an Airbnb owned bu some very Mormon Mormons. Definitely the type of people I would want to spend the
apocalypse with.

my dad was a member their local church. these young men wearing white dress shirts would ride bicycles around the area, my dad invited them into our house a
few times. they never liked me, but my dad got us on food program for a year before they cut us off. way too much starch. he got free $$ too, thousands, to
help pay our bills. then they stopped talking to him. went on for five years

Oops my typo!

I meant to say * He attacked affirmative action,

without affirmation action.

anyway this whole story is just crazy. by far one of the craziest things that’s happened in this country in a long time. not 911 status, but i feel it almost
blurs january 6th and definitely dwarfs other high profile crime stories like chris dorner, eliot rodger, or luigi mangione.

that the killer is this clean cut mormon boy makes it more nuts!

i’ve even seen many obscure italian bloggers talking shit about this case.

The last few days have shown me who my friends and family really are. I've cut off multiple people in my network and even my extended family who were dancing on
Charlie Kirk's grave. I also decided to spite those people by going to the recently announced memorial service, in order to show my support for the Kirk family
and his style of civil debate.

With the latest tragedies in the world, and considering that I was raised Catholic but am currently non-practicing, I'm also about ready to pledge my life to
Jesus. I don't know how that looks as a Democrat, but I don't care about how it looks-- it seems like the right thing to do.

Charlie was a martyr and a hero to his side. The memorial is about a 5-hour drive from L.A. and I'm planning to do it all in one day. I don't know what to
expect, but I'm open-minded and looking forward to it. Would be great to link up with anyone I know there.

There are two memorials here today. One in Arlington Heights and one in Northbrook. My mother wants to go to the one in Northbrook later after church.
