Mon, 15 Dec 2025 07:06:10 -0800 Andy from private IP, post #18520043 /all Psychopathy in lawyers This started off as almost a joke some years back, because I was reflecting on the early years of my legal career and came to the same conclusion with three separate law firms I worked for: they were run by lawyers who (1) didn't seem to care much about money, (2) were not hurting for money, (3) enjoyed pulling strings and controlling things, and/or were manipulative, and (4) abused other people for any reason-- but often for no reason at all! I had filed this away years ago as just the way things are, but it turns out there is recent research supporting the proposition that a large portion of "successful" leaders are not motivated by normal things that people are motivated by, such as money, status, or prestige. They are, instead, motivated by their need to control other people, and also their sadistic, misanthropic tendencies. These traits are over-represented in attorneys, many of whom are simply unhealthy and beyond saving. I wrote an initial article on this for the law firm website, but I'm intending to expand this to a longer-form treatment of the subject specifically as it relates to attorneys. For now, I want to ask everyone a question: have you worked for, or with, or have you dealt with a lawyer who exhibited psychopathic tendencies? This is your opportunity to obtain revenge, I mean justice, in the court of public opinion. Please reply to let me know you have a story to tell, and let's discuss. Thanks! #LawFirm Mon, 15 Dec 2025 07:06:26 -0800 Andy from private IP Reply #14038935 https://www.watters.law/articles/7-The-Psychopathic-Lawyer.php Mon, 15 Dec 2025 09:40:12 -0800 zerosugar from private IP Reply #11104312 You are right when you say some don’t care about money. I don’t understand why some firms take such bullshit cases. They want to grab the retainer and push these useless cases off to associates who can risk their licenses with cases that shouldn’t be litigated to begin with. Don’t get me wrong, everybody deserves their chance to be heard but the reality is some cases are not worth pursuing when the defendant is broke. Even some deep pocket Ds are not worth going after because of the aggravation and limits to recovery unless something absolutely catastrophic happened, hello state agencies!!! Even the ones who make big money lol. With that being said, some partners who take the retainers while pushing cases off to associates should learn to be considerate or give higher rates for problematic clients. The book, first published in 1984, argues that a specific type of "ponerology" (the study of evil) is necessary to understand how certain individuals and groups can seize and maintain power through a process of "pathocracy". The original manuscript was destroyed before a police raid in Communist Poland. Key Concept: It introduces the concept of "pathocracy," a system of government run by individuals with specific psychological abnormalities Mon, 15 Dec 2025 15:23:20 -0800 whiteguyinchina from private IP Reply #14937095 His premise is basically that psychopaths are overrepresented in leadership positions because of their evil nature and ability to not feel empathy He says realizing this is first step in making leadership qualifications preclude these nutsReplies require login.
