Oklahoma woman sues Sonic Drive-In after violent parking lot stabbing

The victim of a violent and seemingly random assault in the parking lot of an Oklahoma City Sonic Drive-In has sued the company, claiming negligence.

Linda Hollrah was on her way home from a concert on Dec. 16 when she stopped by the Sonic restaurant near the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and NW 23 Street,
just west of the Oklahoma State Capitol.

Her attorney Tom Cummings told The Oklahoman that Hollrah ordered ahead. When she arrived, restaurant employees told her to park and they would bring the food
to her.

It was just before midnight. Hollrah parked and kept her window rolled down as she waited for her food.

"And then a man comes up to her. He's masked, and he reaches in the window and he starts stabbing her, stabbing her, and stabbing her," Cummings told The
Oklahoman. "He stabs her in the arm several times, and then the chest, and he stabs her in the liver, and then he stabs her in the knee."

He didn't say a word as he stabbed Hollrah.

Sonic hasn't yet answered the lawsuit in court and did not return a message seeking comment.

Hollrah survived the attack, but needed urgent surgery that has left her with a quarter-million dollar hospital bill, according to her attorney. Another surgery
for her leg injuries is likely to cost just as much, Cummings said.

Lawsuit claims other assaults have happened at Sonic location
In the lawsuit filed Feb. 3, Hollrah claims that other patrons at that Sonic location have been assaulted, and that the company "had reason to know of the
danger posed to its customers" by people who frequent the area.

The restaurant also had no operational cameras and no security on site, the lawsuit claims.

"(Sonic) breached its duty to (Hollrah) by failing to warn her of the likelihood of an attack, by having no security measures in place for her protection and by
failing to protect her from being attacked," the lawsuit states.

Cummings said nobody warned her to keep her window rolled up and doors locked.

Police were unable to locate the suspect that night and are still investigating. Cummings said since Sonic did not have operational cameras, the only images of
the suspect come from the parking lot of a gas station across the street.

"There's a pretty well-documented history at that location of homeless people and some criminal elements coming around there," Cummings said. "It's not safe,
and they know it's not safe, and it has been unsafe for a long time but they didn't say anything to her."

Hollrah is asking the court to award her actual and punitive damages.
