They're going to gas some dude in Alabama

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2026/03/09/charles-sonny-burton-alabama-execution-doug-battle/88991517007/

Rather than pasting an entire article without comment, as if that counts as a poast, I will summarize.

A condemned prisoner in Alabama is one of five men who robbed an AutoZone in 1991. The condemned was outside the store while one other fellow raider -
unbeknownst to the condemned - shot to death someone inside.

The shooter got life in prison.
The condemned, well, you know what sentence he got.

It's the felony murder fact pattern we all studied in crim law. Applicable literally in this case desu, but seems perversely applied at the same time. In fact,
the daughter of the autozone dude has been a vocal critic of the imminent execution of the condemned man; and per the linked article some 67 kilopersons have
signed a petition in oppositing to the planned gassing.

The governor of Alabama does not appear inclined to grant clemency.

Alabama poasters, et al., discutan.

Thats f*cking terrible. They should be ashamed of themselves. Whats scary is there is a push in this country by many nut jobs to give death sentences for non
homicide crimes that are even lesser offenses than this. I am against the death penalty entirely, but gassing is just against human dignity. Actually, not even
an animal should be gassed. I hate to say it, but most hillbillies with their fringe Protestant Evangelical leaning ideology are some of the most hateful
people. Not to sound like a leftist because leftists are super hateful too in different ways, but so many of those people down south have really twisted views
on justice. Its 2026. Alabama is a fucked up place tbh. There are also some really kind people there too with excellent etiquette and southerners have great
taste in wallpaper, but the ignorant are super ignorant. I also think Alabama is like the most southern of southern states. When you think of all the history,
Civil Rights battles that took place later on, etc. The way you can't even wear white there because you get that red mud everywhere. Parts of Alabama are almost
dreamlike too. Mississippi comes close and they of course produced Elvis, but Mississippi is more of a delta culture. Kentucky and Missouri are sort of
Midwestern adjacent. The Carolinas get tons of tourism now and are eastern adjacent. Georgia has Atlanta which is a big city. Tennessee has Nashville and
Memphis which again are big cities and attract northerners. Florida of course has tons of east coast retirees. Arkansas despite producing a president who is
very southern coded sort of gets obscured. Louisiana has too much French and Spanish influence to have that true Dixieland feel. Texas has Spanish influence too
and slight western influence in some areas. This leaves Alabama as the most southern of the southern states. Huntsville and Birmingham (despite recent
gentrification) will never be huge cities like Atlanta. They will also never have the tourism of the Carolinas.

P.S. Arkansas is also slightly midwest adjacent and many people from Arkansas came into Illinois. West Virginia is too eastern adjacent even if hardcore
hillbilly culture. Different people settled in West Virginia that weren't hillbillies.

Not to insult Alabama entirely because it is a beautiful state aesthetically, but there are some nutters there who believe in their views so much, they will
never be open to the possibility they can be wrong.

HAHAHAHA

I took a zillow tour of deep south mansions once, just to see what I could afford there and how people live, haha the aesthwtic you find a lot in expensive
homes is wallpapered antebellum slave mansions essentially.

But yes the wallpaper definitely stood out. Not a huge fan.

When stuff like this happens, you also learn the limits of libertarianism. Libertarians always talk about the Feds with their stupid ā€œdon’t tread on meā€
shirts, but state governments do tons of terrible things daily. Libertarians would accept slavery as long as a state government allows it. I also find it
interested how most of them are gun nuts, but they have no answers when you point out how much certain state governments restrict guns.

Libertarianism is one of those flawed ideologies that sounds ok on paper, but in practice would be a disaster. I feel most of the people who call themselves
libertarians don’t truly believe in that bs. Rather they are nostalgic for Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign when we were all so long and he seemed like
this cool eccentric grandfather. His son has just never had his appeal or charisma. Ron Paul reminds me of a quirky cult leader. The ā€œlibertariansā€ also
want to seem anti government and edgy not like normie Republicans.
