I have a new purchasing matrix to prevent my wife from strangling me

I have a bit of a spending problem, which has caused friction at home. So I came up with a new decision tree/matrix for purchases that has already been really
helpful:

Andy’s Purchasing Matrix

Each item is a scale of 1-10:

1. Adds value to my life and/or work.

2. Timeliness/urgency.

3. Makes economic sense and is aligned with family priorities.

4. If not used for 3 months, will I be embarrassed that I bought this?

5. How do other people feel about this purchase?

6. Will this purchasing decision risk my/family's financial security?

7. What is the cool factor/brand effect of this purchase?

I've run a few of upcoming decisions through this matrix and some examples are:

A Ferrari for my law partner is borderline, but likely a good decision.
A Rolex Daytona for me is a no-brainer in favor.
A Ferrari for me does not make any sense, at least right now.
The broadcast audio console we have is a sure yes, with some caveats.
Personal coaching is a no-brainer (it's how I came up with this matrix).

How do people evaluate purchases? I don't make normal decisions on buying things, so this is helpful to me.

It sounds like you have a bit of a drinking problem as well, champ. A kegerator just for your own use? Wjw

I think I was too poor growing up and in my 20s to actually know how to spend money on myself. Luckily I have a Shanghainese wife so I don't have to worry
about having too much money lying around!

As to #5, stop caring. Come on, man.

How are #3 and #6 meaningfully distinct?

I bought a mid 1990s typewriter in china for like 50 bucks, I am sure everyone thinks this purchase was idiotic. Still i think its cool. I like click clicking
on that thing. Makes me feel like a time traveler.
