NEED TO KNOW
A Louisiana woman donated nearly $1,800 worth of food to a community fridge and pantry

She said most of the food disappeared within an hour of being stocked

Despite feeling emotional afterward, she said she still plans to donate again

A Louisiana woman who spent nearly $1,800 stocking a community fridge said she was left emotional after returning less than an hour later and finding almost
everything gone.

Brashawnee Johnson had donated groceries, snacks and ready-to-eat meals to a community pantry and fridge in Opelousas after learning about the effort online.
The project was created to help people facing food insecurity by offering free access to meals and essentials.

Johnson said she immediately felt called to help.

After seeing posts about the fridge on Facebook, she decided to make a large donation through her nonprofit, The Village Foundation. She carefully chose foods
that could help people who may not have access to a kitchen, stove or electricity.

“I bought peanut butter and jelly, crackers, vienna sausages… things like that to where if you don't have anything to cook it, you can still eat,” Johnson
said, as reported by KATC.

But when she returned a short time later, the shelves were nearly bare.

Johnson said seeing the empty fridge caught her off guard emotionally, especially after realizing only a handful of people appeared to have taken most of the
food. “When I opened the fridge and saw it completely empty, I just started crying again,” she said.

Even so, Johnson made clear that her frustration was not directed at people struggling to feed themselves or their families. She acknowledged that many people
may be dealing with hardships others cannot see.

What hurt most, she explained, was watching other people arrive looking for food after the pantry had already been cleared out.

Beth Jones, co-chair of the community fridge and pantry, said situations like this are not unusual, especially as more families continue facing food insecurity.
She explained that people sometimes take extra food because they are unsure when they will eat again.

“We want you to take what you need to eat,” Jones said, as reported by KATC. “Sometimes when you're hungry you don't know where your next meal is gonna
come from.”

Jones also said donations to community fridges often disappear quickly because the need is so high. Organizers are now working with local police and monitoring
cameras to make sure the system is not being abused.

Despite the emotional experience, Johnson said she has no plans to stop helping.

She said she still intends to donate again, hoping the story encourages others to support efforts that provide meals and groceries to families who may be
struggling quietly behind the scenes.

This is sad

So many people are a month away from being fucked

I remember when the feds paused benefits, there were lines at the food banks

Meanwhile I went to a lunch in a small town in china at 6 people ate lunch for 77 rmb total

That's about 2 dollars a person

Bowl of 8 pr 12 pork wonton and some eggs

Never believe china will all of a sudden collapse due to financial strain, people can still ride ebikes which cost like 150 dollars and eat decently for 5
dollars a day

I mean yea it was probably a bit of cat and rat meat mixed in, but for 2 bucks who cares
