Miami service defaulting to Spanish

I do not emit any visible indicia of being a Spanish speaker. When I travel, I just look like some nondescript gray man, like no finery or fancy stuff on my
person or anything, ostentation level zero; and so there's no way someone would jump to the conclusion that I'm a wealthy European South American.

Imagine my puzzlement, then, upon visits to the American city of Miami, where almost universally the service wallahs initiate comms with me in the Spanish
language. They all revert to serviceable-to-fluent English when I refuse to engage in that Iberian tongue. What, if anything, is the thought process in the
mind of a Miami人 who bootstraps a communication in a language not likely to be spoken by his interlocutor?

Is this just some regional Miami thing? Some kind of power thing? "I will now demonstrate that if you are unable to speak Spanish then you are Outlander"?
Funny thing is I actually *could* function decently in Spanish if I needed to, but make no mistake: when, in an American metropolis, someone tries to force me
into Spanish then that person will be met with The King's.

It's not just me reporting this. Many such cases...

...discutan.

Miami is not really the united states. I mean even in LA or Texas or Arizona people will not assume a nondescript mestizo speaks Spanish. But in Miami they just
don't care if you speak Spanish or not. If not its your problem.

Oddly it is completely surrounded by rednecks on one side, jews and rich whites on the other.

Maybe you throw off "CIA vibes" and they tested you with Spanish, to confirm their suspicions.

2tr, funny you mention that. Nonzero people have actually asked me directly if I have worked for a TLA.

Florida has always been a crappy state to me. I don’t hate it, but I don’t get why so many New Yorkers want to retire there aside from it being cheaper. I
hate the rain and humidity and sun burn. I never burn when I’m in Europe on the beaches there, but burn like crazy in Florida and the Caribbean.

I honestly haven’t been in Florida forever. I of course went to Disney as a kid and a few times to Daytona and Tampa and stuff. I also spent my 17th bday in
Florida as my mom had a friend who moved to Hollywood, Florida and we visited Miami for the day. There are just other parts of the country that pull me more,
but I’m sure Florida in the 50s had some mystique.

I also visited the Hard Rock Hotel that year where Anna Nicole Smith died and spent time at the pool. This movie Florida Project summarizes Florida perfectly.
OMG and now I associate Marco Rubio with Florida.

Honestly this movie is heartbreaking.
