Sen. Graham was very open about the impact his parents' deaths (said deaths occuring within a one year period of each other) had on his life and on his younger sister's life. If he was in fact a straight man who preferred to live life as a single man, I'm guessing he: (i) made protection of his "little sister" his number one focus, and (ii) he didn't want to enter into a relationship because he couldn' t stand the though of losing a wife and/or having children who would lose a mother or father some day. Side note: I don't think Biden was a skeevy pedo. I think the trauma of losing his wife and daughter was never adequately dealt with by him. His wife and daughter never got to see him sworn in as a U.S. Senator, the crowning achievement in his life (before POTUS), which is why he always gets very "huggy" with young girls and the young wives at all the swearing in events of other elected officials - trying to live out the experience he missed out on. As a man, you can't lose your wife and/or daughter and not feel like you failed to protect them - a part of your soul is forever broken. He was old fashioned and deeply attached to institutions, but unconventional. This colorful, solitary funny Southern figure. There wasn't an obvious template for him. That contradiction is what makes him a great character. He was fascinating. Politics today are now dominated by boring middle class people turned yuppies like JD Vance, domineering celebs like Trump (Trump is funny and puts on a good show, but not layered like Senator Graham), or leftist activists like AOC or Ilhan Omar. I think Biden and Graham were indeed connected by tragedy. I also do not think Biden was a villain, but he aged into a party that no longer represented him.
