It will be my first time attending a competition as a captain. It will be my first time playing the defendant as well as an attorney. It will be my first time doubling as two different roles. I am really. excited but also very nervous. I am working hard on memorization and at the same time I am also working on the difference between being a witness and being an attorney. I used to believe that there were a lot of differences in playing the two parts but in reality I now believe differently. Sure in one I'm acting and I front have to worry about objections rules of evidence as much but in terms of performance there is a level of familiarity. I still must do everything in my power to command attention away from the opposing side. I still must keep my tone conversational and realistic while also maintaining an authority to help bring forth whatever facts I am trying to elicit in a trusting light. I am also nervous about my role as a captain. Luckily this first tournament is filled with mainly returners so I won't have to worry about making someones first competition a positive experience as they have all done this before. Still, a good number of my teammates are trying new roles and so I do want to ensure that they are as capable as possible to take on this new task. We have previous witnesses taking on being attorneys and due to a unfortunate series of last minute drop outs waves had to move these individuals from easily adaptable attorney roles to more advanced ones with less notice. Still I am excited. The majority of my week will be practicing and prepping for this tournament. I hope to give an update on the tournament next week. _reply Mon, 23 Oct 2023 14:12:22 -0700 Andy from private IP /all I remember my mock trial days well; I should write a separate article on that. Has mock trial helped or hurt your desire to work in law? Looking forward to the update!Replies require login.
