Andy from private IP /all A horrible judge is likely to appear in my Hall of Shame They have been on the bench for about a year after the Governor appointed them by surprise. They are the most miserable, vindictive judge I've ever run across in 18 years of practice. They've already done horrible things to my client in a family law case for no legitimate reason, and they are downright awful in court. Honestly, they are at the point of violating 42 U.S.C. sec. 1983, which does apply to state judges. I announced a new policy to my staff that we are going to do 170.6 peremptory challenges to this judge in every single case assigned to them-- I've never done that before. I may also be adding this judge to my Hall of Shame once my one or two current cases with them are wrapped up, because with peremptory challenges I would never have to deal with them again. This would be a first for me and would be highly controversial in the community. Want to talk me out of it? Note that this is not a personal vendetta, it's just based on my assessment that something is seriously wrong with this judge and the fact that I put deserving individuals on my Hall of Shame. _reply Tue, 06 Feb 2024 03:57:42 -0800
Andy from private IP /all I checked with a couple other local attorneys, and they had the same horror stories with this judge-- my impressions were absolutely right. Can't believe I'm going to have to put a judge in my Hall of Shame...this is some Twilight Zone stuff. The Robing Room doesn't even have them on there yet because they are so new to the bench, so currently their top link on Google is their LinkedIn. I will have to check the ethical rules in California, because if I remember correctly, criticizing a judge is at the intersection of free speech and professional responsibility. _reply Tue, 06 Feb 2024 04:03:09 -0800
Andy from private IP /all I checked, and it's all good as long as it's all true and I'm not a candidate for judicial office (I'm not, lol). Like my other Hall of Shame pages, this one will be 100% true and 100% fair to the subject. Andy from private IP /all This judge denied my peremptory challenge of them in a newly filed case. That is straight-up illegal and is making me think I should organize a recall petition. Recalling a state judge only requires 50 signatures to initiate the process! _reply Wed, 07 Feb 2024 08:16:08 -0800
Blee from private IP /all I don't suppose recall can be done anonymously? A failed recall seems like it would make things even worse. I like the idea of a Hall of Shame though. It would give me a place to bitch about outside counsel who redline every sentence of something I draft, just to generate billings. Nothing like a fifty page game of "guess how I would have drafted this?" _reply Wed, 07 Feb 2024 08:37:58 -0800
Andy from private IP /all My Hall of Shame has been a wonderful outlet. It's part public service announcement, and part retribution. I get calls and emails routinely from people who have also been conned or victimized by persons in my Hall of Shame, and they thank me for confirming their suspicions, or otherwise. DSE from private IP /all Good service. I'll all about naming and shaming judges. _reply Wed, 07 Feb 2024 10:01:13 -0800
Andy from private IP /all @DSETest Who are the bottom two judges in your rogues' gallery, and why?
