Still kicking around, taking questions
I used to post drama about my powerful father-in-law disowning my wife and not
attending our U.S. or Asia weddings. That took a 180. Whenever I visit, he
gives me good food, makes sure the fridge is stocked with good beer for me, and
he often sends me off with a bottle of a nice Scotch or something. He even
wanted me to join a big family vacation in Japan. That’s a good update.
I’m still glad I dropped out of law school.
I’m in the same line of work that I was in when JDU went dark. Not gonna talk
in much detail about work but since the site disconnected, my job in Africa
ended then I got assigned to China, Europe, and another part of Asia.
During my time in the good ol USA, I was surprised by the extent tipping culture
had taken hold. We went to Redwoods National Park, which was a bucket list item
for me. At a gift shop, there was a tipping selection to be made right after
paying for generic souvenirs. Thought that was kind of ridiculous.

Great to hear your update-- thanks for sharing! I vaguely recall your line of
work from back then, great to hear you are in the same field. This is jogging
my memory about posts about your particular field, which are a jumble in my head
right now. It's too bad the old JDU went dark in 2019. Here's to many more
years of your extremely flattering avatar on the new JDU.

That’s the billion dollar question, innit?
I’m in Taiwan on a family visit right now. Lunar New Year coming up this week.
A couple of my wife’s friends and extended family have asked me for specific
insight about invasion scenarios and how they can prepare themselves and their
assets. No idea what gives them the impression that I am an authority on that.

I wonder what the Chinese battle plan looks like for Taiwan. Is there such a
thing as a pacify and occupy model? Or is it a straight-up siege where they cut
off everything, including the internet cables? Starlink would come in handy.
