Andy from private IP /all Poll: planned per-user blocking feature, seeking feedback and feature requests By popular demand, I'm going to enable per-user blocking. That is, any user can block any other user. Here are the options I intend to offer in your control panel to accomplish this: 1. Threads started by users you have blocked are invisible and you will never see them. 2. Threads *and replies* by users you have blocked are invisible and you will never see them, while still seeing threads in which the blocked user participates. 3. Same as #1, but threads started by you will be invisible to the other user. 4. Same as #3, but replies by you will be invisible to the other user. #4 is the most extreme choice, and may remove important context from posts that may cause them to no longer make sense. But hey, if you want someone to be dead to you, that is the method. In any scenario, the blocked user cannot tag you, and you cannot tag them, or DM with them (DM's are in development). Anything else needed? #Programming #Technology _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 09:53:52 -0800
moisture2 from private IP /all 4. I want this person to stop existing. _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 10:05:06 -0800
zerosugar from private IP /all I am not sure which would make the most sense to this board because let’s just face it, you can never truly block somebody on such a platform. You can still see all their posts as soon as you log out and the gossip continues. The only benefit I can see to a blocking would be to stop spam posts while you are logged in, but if blocking feature is to end harassment, nothing can realistically do that on social media. lol. Maybe not seeing the person will cause somebody to not get triggered temporarily? Tiktok has the best blocking feature because it not only makes users invisible to one another, but makes any previous communications invisible while the block is active. Of course tiktok is a totally different platform than messaging boards. _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 10:07:51 -0800
Andy from private IP /all @zerosugarTest This is going to be TikTok-style blocking-- it will be non-destructive, meaning no changes are made to the underlying post data. Rather, this is a processing layer that will hide blocked users' communications with a filter. That way you can turn it on and off without affecting anyone else on here. _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 10:08:04 -0800
zerosugar from private IP /all DM features may be the most beneficial because it can allow the users to congregate with who they want and tell their gossip in private. Once DMs are activated, the need for blocking lessens. _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 10:08:05 -0800

zerosugar from private IP /all Oops sorry for the double post. Thanks for clarifying :) That sounds like it could work. _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 10:09:23 -0800
Andy from private IP /all I'll prioritize DM's after I get per-user blocking done. Thanks for noting that. _reply Sun, 11 Feb 2024 10:13:58 -0800
Andy from private IP /all Would anyone want to see custom group DM's where you can tag a group of users, who are the only ones who see your post? That kind of defeats the purpose of an open discussion board, but hey, if that's what people want, I can experiment with that feature and see what happens.
