I'm not sure what individual Trump fans thought it was, but the real question is
what did Trump think it was? Was he hoping to call these people to action?
Action as in a simple protest or hoping they would come armed? I think the
latter and then he scolded these people as if he didn't know. The reality is
they were not his own personal army and generally were unarmed so they could not
stage a coup for him which is what I think he wanted.
Either way, a woman who was a Trump fan died and Trump didn't even mention her
name in his first speeches after 6 January. Trump only started to mention the
woman when he saw it would benefit him politically. Even Schumer offered
condolences first. For this, I cannot believe people are still supporting Trump
at such high levels. After I saw this, my opinion of Trump plummeted.
While I do not consider myself a Republican or conservative and never aligned
with their platform, I certainly am not a liberal. Liberals in the USA are just
as intolerant. I also don't like Nikki Haley, but blindly supporting Trump is
just crazy. He won't do anything if reelected. Much of the current economic
crisis may also be a result of his crazy policies during covid. I still won't
vote for Biden, but I live in Illinois where the state will likely turn blue
regardless so best I stay at home then waste time going to the polls. People
have lost friends and even family over meaningless politics and thats sad. All
the old people fighting on Facebook.

P.S. While they did not have the ability to stage a coup and hence the term
insurrection is clearly excessive, obviously there was still chaos and vandalism
and members of Congress were freaked out enough to flee.
