I disabled WeChat notifications so I have to manually check, which I do like
once per month. Could definitely use an update here about his bumping into
billionaires who want to send their kids to the Ivy League.

New business is Excellent in SoCal. Despite a flash flood warning and downpour,
we got 100% attendance at our main seminar, actually 140% or so since they
brought friends. We rented an amazing conference space with full catering for
brunch, like $5000 for 2 hours, and came in HOT with 5 Partners giving a solid
presentation. Just look richer and more premium than any similar outfit in the
market.
Our subsequent first SoCal classes were a hit. Word of mouth is being spread on
the bamboo network about this slick, elite test prep company coming in from Asia
like a boss. It's helpful we're giving heavy discounts for all the families who
bring in clients, much more than we give in Shanghai, which will help for the
public school families.
SoCal center will definitely be a loss leader for a while. I'm going to
struggle hard to try to get the budget to zero by the end of the summer. But
I'll definitely be back in the summer.
In other news, I've seen more seals and sea lions up close, including on a
kayak, than I need to. And I got badly sunburned.

awesome to hear! what you need to do, is to take the china-based USA test prep
company public in shenzhen or shanghai based on this buzz, sell off all your
stock immediately, see the company crash, and escape back to america with nary a
yuan to your name. and then start over like your ancestors did.
you did say you were tired of all this big boss living.

Haha, I prefer going to SoCal on a seasonal basis and earning some USD at elite
daily rates rather than trying to scale quickly and blowing up like so many
other edu startups have done.
Traveling in the US is a lot more fun when you have more $, I've discovered this
time. Service is great in any bougie Nordstrom's / Tiffany's / Westfield mall,
there's no anti-Asian racism when you're staying in a Hilton or a $600/night
Airbnb house, and nary a homeless person approaches the monstrosity of a Ford
Expedition I'm renting for 2 weeks. Everyone compliments my kid's great hair
whether in the Met or the Getty or Balboa Park. She's been on like 2
trans-Pacific flights and one NYC-LAX red eye and is always smiling to
strangers. She'll be in Hong Kong in a month, Manhattan for Thanksgiving, and
probably the Maldives next year, all before she turns 2, haha.
