many CPAs want the lawyers to do it, but today a client asked me about it.
She has an EIN for a business entity, so it may be treated as having an LLC even
if she never set up an entity.
We should play it safe & file, as the penalties for not
filing are very high. Just needed copy of her passport, as she is

that beneficial ownership information reporting requirements have been affected
by a recent federal court order. The Department of the Treasury is appealing
that order. In the meantime, reporting companies are not currently required to
file a BOIR and are not subject to liability if they fail to do so while the
applicable order remains in force.
However, reporting companies may still opt to file a BOIR.

Malaysia, & she emailed me asking about the BOI. She has a rental property in
Detroit, & an EIN but no LLC set up. Been eight years filing a form 1040NR & a
sch.E. Reply was yes I'm just gonna do it but i do need a passport as u need to
upload it to the BOI site, as she is not a US citizen, but she has an ITIN.Yes
half an hour to do it, just not sure if it was required for that client, had to
upload copy of passport.
