Part of me wishes I knew the law school wily before he got successful
Like, before the VC banquets and 20 dollar bottles of water, the international holidays with the nanny and him inviting 40 of his relatives to a mutton
barbecue, who was this bro

🤣 What was Wily like before he was successful? He got his days and nights mixed up playing online poker, gaining
weight by gorging on Papa John’s and porn, living like a hoarder, skipping all his law school classes, never studying, being depressed, and “contributing to
a legal blog” a/k/a The Thunderdome with Excellent Posts on Loserdom. The fact he was able to lift himself out of this suicidal ideation and depression and go
on to be the successful Chinese SAT hustler and father he is today is truly a EPIC miracle.

🤣 Edit: I was trying to remember the name of Wily’s favorite porn star but had to google her: Riley Reid, haha.

👍 Exnite got it 95% right. It was Magic: the Gathering Online, not online poker, that was my main vice in law
school. The MTG world is literally the Loser of all the niche worlds I've inhabited - compared to pro poker or even e-sports, MTG is even more overweight,
ass-crack-showing, neckbeard male-dominated.
I partially blame all the Big Pharma poison I was popping before I moved to the East. They really made me feel like living that way wasn't *that* bad. Only
without the numbing qualities of anti-depressants and mood stabilizers could I properly hit rock bottom and fix my horrid life habits. The rest I blame on
immaturity, having grandiose delusions that needed correction, and not getting laid. I probably could've been a fairly good lawyer if I had my present-day
habits back then.
Most of my personality hasn't changed, though. No one's really does in their 30s.
If you knew me back then, I was like 50 lbs heavier, a bit more cynical, but still pretty much the same as today.

20 years ago I was an abject failure across every metric except for my gifts in web application programming and my
success in my trial advocacy class. I don't really want people to remember the me from 2002-2005. In 2005, 2005-era me was in his third year of law school,
was an arrogant egomaniac, and was a complete failure and hopeless with normal social experiences such as dating. He wasted no opportunity to share the fact of
his supergenius intellect with everyone, which he eventually learned nobody cares about. He should have done something else than law school, probably with
computers.
I'm not complaining because I mostly like how things turned out, but at the same time, what the fuck. My 20-year law school reunion this year is going to be
really interesting.

I hate reunions, but I am planning on attending my 20-year law school reunion just to see where everyone landed.
There's maybe one AUSA, one corporate general counsel, a bunch of refugees from BigLaw who retired early, and numerous no-name or unknown small firm owners.
There is literally no one from my era of law school still practicing in my area with any success. I appear to be the last man standing as a small law firm
owner, because folks just don't survive doing this.

When I was working in Metro Center a dozen years ago, I took an afternoon off to lure Wiry from his Foggy Bottom
hovel. There’s a bookstore in DuPont Circle - Kramer Books - that has a full bar in the back. We sat down and did some DC daydrinking, skulling whiskey and
gossiping about youse degenerates. It was fun.

By the time I read about him, he was already in china and I was not familiar with the history of the board or that
babylawyer had gone to meet him. I also wish I would have been lurking as it seemed like an interesting time to read.
