Austin Metcalf: Texas Teen Stabbed in Heart During Track Meet Didn’t Know
Accused Killer, Police Chief Dispels Rumors

Two teens involved in a deadly stabbing at a Texas high school track meet on
April 2 had no prior connection, according to witnesses.

Karmelo Anthony, 17, is accused of stabbing Austin Metcalf, 17, in the heart
last week while both were at the Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. Both teens were
attending a championship track and field meet.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by CrimeOnline indicated that witnesses told
police the confrontation started when Metcalf asked Anthony to leave a tent set
up for Metcalf’s track team.

The affidavit stated that the two had never met before the incident.

Police said Metcalf got into an altercation with Anthony, who sat under a tent
designated for Memorial High School students.

Metcalf was a junior football star at Memorial, while Anthony attended
Centennial High School. The affidavit stated that after Anthony reached into his
bag upon being told he was sitting in the wrong area.

A witness reported hearing him say, “Touch me and see what happens.”

The witness told police that Metcalf then touched Anthony, who then encouraged
Metcalf to punch him. Metcalf reportedly tried to make him move. That’s when
Anthony pulled a black knife from his bag and stabbed Metcalf in the chest
before fleeing, the witness said.

Anthony later asked police if the incident constituted self-defense.

“I know that my client said it was self-defense. I don’t have any reason to
disbelieve that, but I need to develop facts, talk to people and figure out
what’s going on before I make any statements about what I think happened,”
Anthony’s defense lawyer, Deric Walpole, told NBC 5. “I don’t have any
reason to think it wasn’t self-defense at this time.”

Meanwhile, the Frisco Police Department is warning the public of social media
posts spreading fraudulent information.

“Beware of those taking to social media to deliberately spread misinformation,
hate, fear and division,”Frisco Police Chief David A. Shilson posted on X.,
stating someone called the incident a “mutual combat altercation” after
Metcalf “sucker punched” Anthony.

The chief goes on to say that the same fraudulent account claimed Metcalf also
smashed Anthony’s phone “onto one of the bleachers.”

The source behind the account could face impersonation charges, a third-degree
felony. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Police also said a doctored image, which falsely claimed to be a report from the
Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office, stated that Metcalf’s primary cause
of death was an “MDMA drug overdose,” with the stab wound listed as a
secondary cause.

Metcalf’s cause of death has not yet been released.

“The Frisco Police Department is aware of an image circulating on social media
purporting to be a report from the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office. At
this time, the report has NOT been released. Therefore, any information
currently found online is FALSE,” the police department said.

Anthony remains behind bars on $1 million bail. Check back for updates.

Reply #12142662 O.K. when I first heard of this
story, I honestly didn't know what to think and assumed they were classmates who
had some ongoing feud because why would somebody just bring a knife to a track
meet? Apparently, they were not acquainted. Meanwhile, all these crazy people
online are justifying Austin being murdered. If there had their way, the schools
would become war zones where anybody can kill anybody over words. I feel
terrible one boy is dead and the other destroyed his life and will get sent to
prison. Texas is not the state to commit a crime in. Actually, the USA is not
the country. However, Austin didn't deserve to die even if the conspiracy
theories regarding bullying were true and at this point, there is no proof they
the accused was bullied. Did Austin seem like a jock Chad type who may have
gotten snippy with somebody? Absolutely, it's possible. Still, that people think
he deserved to get stabbed to death is insane. Morals in this country have sunk
so low. I thought the people defending Gypsy Rose were crazy. The people
defending Karmelo Anthony are even nuttier.

Reply #16704325 Austin's mom also seems like a
poor woman who works as a waitress. I feel bad after reading the fundraiser so I
donated. Her and his twin are obviously very heartbroken. The dad who I am
guessing was divorced from the mom has said some odd things in the news, that he
already forgives the killer. I can respect Christian values like that, but I
just don't know how I feel about that at this moment considering the other side
seem to show no compassion. It's ultimately up to God to forgive and God
forgives when remorse is shown. The other side do not seem remorseful. The
comments I have seen online are vile. I don't want to blame all Black people
because some have condemned the killing, but it seems a large majority of
comments show no compassion. I also see lots of hate coming from white women who
date black men. One white girl today who clearly dated black men was writing all
these crazy comments justifying the stabbing. I bet she would feel differently
if somebody murdered her son.

Reply #15133543 WOW! This guy's bond was reduced
to $250,000 and he was let out of prison. He will be alllowed to celebrate
Easter with his family, but the others lost a son. Guess I was wrong about
Texas. I now see others online were not wrong for speculating about what would
happen if the races were reversed. What would be the public reaction? This case
also shows me what I suspect all along that white Americans of British Isles and
Northern European descent are largely cowards who are so terrified of being
called racist. The South is filled with all these white guilt types today, but
they need to realize that most white people in this country today do not share
their same history. Most of us did not have ancestors in this country prior to
the Emancipation Proclamation, so we shouldn't have to live in the type of world
they are creating.

Anyway, this case has been racialized beyond belief. Some crazies have even
claimed Austin was a white supremacist despite the fact that his old tiktok is
mostly rap music by black artists and emulating Black American culture. No proof
at all he hated black people or held any racist views, but once again, this is
racialized and the white boy who lost his life is vilified while the killer is
an innocent good boy.

I think back to the Floyd protests too when there were lots of racial tensions
in this country. Its terrible what happened to Floyd, but it was ultimately
accidental. I doubt Chauvin wanted to kill Floyd. Was too much force used? Yes.
However, people of all races are killed by police frequently in this country in
killings that are not accidental. Floyd was not shot by police. There have been
many whites shot by police and no attention was given to the cases. The problem
is a militarized police force not a racist one.

Was he really in fear for his life or was he trying to be a bad ass?

Reply #16253722 Oh never mind my comments about
whites, the judge who reduced the bond is a black woman not a white man afraid
of being called racist. Btw, I’m against both the death penalty and life
sentences without parole, but I also don’t know what it’s like to have a
family member be a victim of murder and I also recognize that people who take
lives still do deserve prison time. There just needs to be respect for the
families of victims.
